... in response to Rose Colored Glasses Versus a Microscope..., posted by Dan on Jun 16, 2002

The problem with navigating by a microscope is that you miss the big picture...

Ever see a razor under a microscope? It is filled with imperfections! It looks incredibly gross...

However, I can take that same razor, and shave with it with no difficulty at all.

Or, I can stand at my microscope and scream at eveyrone that they are all going to die because the razor is full of imperfections...

... in response to Navigating by a Microscope . . ., posted by MarkInTx on Jun 16, 2002

Hey Mark,

I am going to have to side with Dan on this one about LP.

Hey about this big picture thing - where is it written that everyone who knows how to use a microscope just happens to be someone whereby the microscope is super glued to their head and thus not allowing one to see the big picture?

Sorry but I do not see any logic in that only an invalid way of trying to undermine the substance of some darn good posts by someone you find rubs you the wrong way.

Now you want Dan to go back and show you where LP had insightful posts? Are you serious? (Dan don't you dare waste your time on such nonsense.)

Seriously, you could not find value in several of LP's posts?  If your answer truly is no - well - this confuses me because I guess I liked your story enough that I do not want to think that you will soon be running for the Presidency of the LA LA Land Club.

With so little to go on, I will admit that I have tried to figure this out and in my limited perspective I came up with that

A) indeed you just might be soon announcing your candidacy or ------------------  B) perhaps LP rubs you just wrong enough that you can not find it in yourself to admit that irrespective of how you feel about the general tone of his posts  ------ that he does have some posts that are right on the money although not wanted to be heard by some.

Now help me out here - only you know that truth - I take that back as that is an assumption on my part.

BTW even though you and your lady really do not know much about each other than the fairly world of  part I of a new relationship --- from your posts my take is your lady is genuine and sincere and if you are anything like KenC she most likely will continue to feel that same way. Such being the case you are a lucky man. I wish you two the best of luck

Greg,

As I said in the above post, I'm done discussing LP. I've said all I have to say about him.

He's not worth my time, or the board space...

We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

PS: Thank you for your kind words and warm wishes...

Thanks again for the great trip report. Reports like that always are encouraging to those in the process. It is like being able to vicariously see the end of the journey that might be theres.

My pleasure...

You always take a risk when you are that transparent...

But I remember that when I started, it was the few positive reports that I read that made me decide the trip was worth taking.

And it is...

So I am just repaying all of those who encouraged me...

I'm glad that it was (for the most part) enjoyed...

And while you make a good point about losing the big picture - there are equally great points to be made about the utility of close scrutiny and analyses - the strongsuit that LP bring to the party.

If you care to - it is very possible to learn an enormous amount about this process by studying LP's posts and experiences. It is truly a shame that you won't ever discover that Mark - and it seems to be due to a closed-mindedness on both your parts to offer any appreciation to the other.

Mark, I also recognize that you are now somewhat along in the process and probably have less interest in all the learnings that some other readers might.

Still, it would be an enormous disservice to judge all of LP's posts to be arrogant and therefore worthless. I assure you (for whatever value *my* assurance holds) that LP has posted some of the most insightful and thought-provoking posts ever seen on this board. For that matter - some of the most humerous too. But I admit that it does take an appreciation of LP's particular brand of humor to see it - but it is there and others on the board have observed it just as I have.

I know my commentary will not persuade you to alter your perspective of LP - but it would be nice if it did --smile--.

... in response to Hey Now! - This is *My* Metaphor --smile..., posted by Dan on Jun 17, 2002

OK, Dan...

You say that He is full of insight and analysis?

I say he is full of something else.

I posted above, using his own words and reference, why I feel the way I do. (And I notice that you didn't respond to any of that..)

Please... tell me three things he has said that you found thought-provoking and useful?

You should be able to do that... right?

Hey... I'm not the biggest fan of WSBill, but, I can even list THREE things that WSBill has said that I like. (In fact, WSBill once made one of the most eloquent statements I have ever read on here...)

But I have been reading this board since back when LP spelled out his handle instead of abbreviating it. His venom has, until recently, never been directed at me. And so, it was with an unbiased eye that I read his stuff and thought: "This guy is full of donkey dung!"

But, I am DYING to know what you have found to be so insightful...

Help me here... give me three posts. And I will go to the archives and read them

When... oh when... was LP thought provoking?

Not just provocative -- anyone can do that... I mean THOUGHT provoking...

He is nothing more than the board's version of a shock jock.
