An RW friend of mine wants to join an agency.  Can anyone suggest one (or more) that will maximize her chances of meeting a good guy?

And I wouldn't recommend concentrating only on the free sites.  They're popular with some men because they're free, but they may not produce the best results for the ladies.  Almost any international agency type site is free to the ladies and if they market heavily to men, they're going to generate quite a response for her if she's attractive.

Have her join some of both and among the sites that aren't free to men, I'd recommend concentrating on agencies with large sales.  You might start by checking magazine ads for Russian women.  I've seen ads in a few of them and the agencies that are advertising like this would probably be the ones with higher sales that would produce the best response rates for her.

Have her get some GOOD photos and make sure she SMILES. Make sure it's a real smile, not a "show me your teeth" grimmace.  Photos are by far the most important aspect of her ad.

By the way, it's nice to see someone helping a lady who's thinking about what's best for her rather than recommending an agency he thinks is best for men.  Most guys I've seen that try to help ladies are actually trying to get her responses by just saying she's available and asking men from the board to write either to him so he can "screen" them or directly to her.  I think they do this for two reasons.  One, they may feel that they can select men better than she could, and two- They don't want anyone to profit from her personal ad.  That's not usually the best approach for the lady IMHO.  They're letting their own anti-agency predjudice get in the way of really helping a lady find a husband.

You are so right Patrick!

My wife tried to get involved with translations for her firend, reading each letter and getting personally involved with picking and choosing which men to write to...I had to put a stop to it, I told her to help her get her ad posted but not to get involved with "the correspondence". Let her make up her own mind, and when she needs help with translation my wife can jump in and straighten things out only as a last resort.

It has been interesting getting her ad posted though, some sites write her an e-mail notifying her she has received many letters...only to find out that they want her to pay for "additional services" to retrive such letters.
The classic case of bait and switch...and I only thought it happened to us men!

Within the past month, the Wall Street Journal had an article about web based match sites.  Sorry, I clipped but didn't include the date.  The title is 'Bored of the Rings.'

Anyway, it listed the 5 highest 'hit' sites as follows:

Match.com
Yahoo Personals
Matchmaker.com
Dreammates.com
Friendfinder.com

I have used all but Dreammates (I had never heard of it before), with good results.

My wife too has a friend who wants to be "advertised" on the internet...she does not have much good luck so far on the men that respond to her ads on Absolute.com

Match.com will not allow women from FSU to advertise on their site any more...which is where I saw my wife's ad for free.

From what she has learned...do not advertise on sites that charge for each letter, or for each address...there was never any responses from them but the sites that you pay a monthly fee for unlimited access is where she has the most letters....but many lookie-lews and bored men with time on thier hands to write many short uninteresting letters.
