How are you mortals doin' down there?

V and Dasha arrived yesterday (3 hrs late but that's Aerof&%# for ya). They are both pretty sick with broncitus (sp?) and 15 hours on a plane didn't help that much but they are here and happy to be here. Ya tojah!

I guess V got the third degree from the lady at Immigration in Seattle. It seems that she was of Asian decent and there was some reverse discrimination going on until this (white) dude stepped in and got her on through and on her way.

I just wish my Russian was better so I could communicate with my 3 y.o. daughter better. She just looks at me like I'm a dumb s#!t (not too far off sometimes but that's not the problem here). I have to keep grabbing V to come translate for me.

One problem that has arisen so far is that all Dasha's videos won't play on my VCR. It might be I just need a tracking adjustment or something but that's all automatic on my unit so I'll have to get out the manual and look for an override.

All I can say for you guys still searching is you will have to settle for second best. I've won the gold medal folks.

I will write more about the adjustment period later as time permits.

Don't touch that dial!

The video system in Europe is different than ours. They are PAL. (We are NTSC).

Her videos will not play in your VCR. You can have them converted, however. Most major cities have video places that offer that service.

Also, btw, many computer boards and software will handle the different formats just fine... but not VCRs.

Incidentally, when I bought a DVD in Russia, it would not play in my DVD player. Wasn't an incompatibility issue. They actually put some sort of a code on the DVD, and then my player refused to play it. Read a Russia code, and told me -- no dice.

Pissed me off. I had a 12 hour flight, and no movie. (Well, no movie that wasn't dubbed...) No good reason for that... the powers to be just decided...

Oh well...

Thanks PAL. You may have just saved my sanity. I could use some distractions as I am really getting tired of following Dasha around turning off lights/heaters/stereo. She seems to have a switch fetish. Ever light in the house on except when you need it and then she slides in and "Boom boom out go the lights." (I can hardly wait to see my next electric bill.) I'll check in Sacremento and see if I can get them (all 30 or so) converted.

Day two and all is well Smiley Oh, BTW, I got reaquainted with what it feels like to step on a Lego at 4 in the morning, :0 Dermo! Ah, the joys of (my second) fatherhood. But I wouldn't change a thing. Life is good (with a UW)!

Geez... when I first read that she had a switch fetish, I had to read the surrounding sentences with care...

Oh... you mean *THAT* kind of a switch ;-)

Say, have you thought of installing those heat sensing switches? (Or motion sensors) As soon as you walk in a room... the lights go on. Go out as soon as you leave...

Don't think they help locate and track missing legos though... I guess you're on your own there!

(BTW, I have had that late night lego misstep myself -- OUCH!)

Probably in 7th heaven and I would say probably too busy to be posting anytime soon but who knows.  It would be great to hear how he is doing.

He deserves success considering what he has endured in the past and what he has gone through during his search and besides he is a really good guy on top of that.

I can only wish him the best of luck with his new life.
