... in response to Status of Moscow Embassy?, posted by mdante99 on Nov 6, 2001

Hello, Sorry for the delay, but I was in Penza after our
interview and did not have access to internet. Everything went as planned, the embassy is open, and you do have to enter the East gate as they call it, from the front walk to the right, east, and go back the alley, then go around a building and you will see the fence, this is to the left at the back of the alley this is the east gate, then you will enter, go a short way to a guard house, and then back in the direction of the compound and then to the right and right again, into a newer building , then metal detector, and into the serivces area, windows, for giving papers, money and a room for the interviews, if you are their with your fiancee, expect the guards to try to intimidate you not to accompany your fiancee, don't let them, just say you have the papers and have to go in, no pagers, have your visa and passport and proceed. You will not be in with the actual interview, but the support means allot and they will notice that you are there, ours only took about 5 minutes, and please if you pay with US dollars remember they have to be perfect, Russia doesn't like dirty money, not even in the American embassy.  Any other questions please email me, d-egolf@texas.net ,,,, Good luck everyone, and I recommend the Ukrania hotel, they were very nice, and pretty close to the embassy.

... in response to Status of Moscow Embassy?, posted by mdante99 on Nov 6, 2001

This was just posted on the TSC Complaint website. It is the only experience thus far to come out of the Moscow Embassy. Here it is:

"Hello. Here is an update hot off the press at my hotel with my fiancee. We went to embassy at 7:00 a.m. It is very collllllllld and wet and snowy. The taxi dropped us off by an alley next to embassy and we walked down the alley. There were no signs or anything, but we followed some people to a muddy dirt path that led to a parking lot. I think to myself, this is not embassy!!! This must be a joke. I see only dirty warehouses. But there is an embassy behind a fence. Everyone huddled under umbrella and wait for 8:00 a.m. At 8:00 a.m., the guards began receiving fiancees. They had a checklist for names. They would not let me accompany my fiancee through the gate. I waited outside for two hours in cold. Finally, my fiancee came out of embassy very happy. She picked up visa at 4:30 p.m.

Now, we celebrate."

JohnG,

Would you be so kind as to provide a URL for the TSC complaint board. When I connect to ins.gov, and dig down to the TSC, I do not find references to a complaint board.

Your help is greatly appreciated!

And why would I think that such a site is supported by the INS? Silly me.

Mark,

Unfortunately, we haven't heard anything from anyone who has been there since the embassy closed. Dave Egolf went there for his fiancee's interview on October 30th, but we haven't heard anything back from him yet.

My fiancee is planning on going there next week as scheduled. The last I heard from the Moscow Embassy was to have the fiancees go the the main building, East Gate, and they will have their interviews.

Hopefully we will hear from someone who has actually gone through the process since the change. If not, I will certainly post after my fiancee goes there for her November 14th interview. Here's hoping...

Thanks for the offer. I'll be watching for your post. Our appointment is the 19th, and I will still be in the U.S. on the 14th and 15th. The copy of a post from the TSC complaint board sounds good, but I don't quite understand the references to the alley and the dirt path. Perhaps that is the "East Gate," or perhaps that is something different. I called the Embassy about two weeks ago, and a staffer said:

"Go to the East Gate of the Embassy. That is across the street from Dom Staly." That translates as House of Stal. However, I didn't hear it very clearly, and probably got it slightly wrong.
