Spanish tapes

I got my novia a set of advanced spanish tapes in borders for her to learn correct english. The tapes are to learn Spanish but can be used to learn english. She seems to enjoy these and I brought her a cheap $20 walkman a K-Mart. She enjoys running around my neighborhood, excercising in the morning with her cheap walk man and her spanish tapes lol. It seems it is very hard to find true ESL tapes for Spanish speakers at the book store. She gets mad at me when I speak in all Spanish and not english. I have since been speaking in all english and it is harder for her to understand me but she says it is the only way she will learn english better.

Another suggestion is to try your public library, especially one that's in, or adjacent to, a neighborhood with a fair number of immigrants.  You can get cassettes, CDs and videos as well as printed materials.  I use the library as a "try before you buy" because they've got a good selection of the big names - Barron's, Berlitz and Pimsleur - in both ESL and for an American learning Spanish.

The idea of finding ESL related materials at a local corner market or supermercado is also a good one.

Thanks, I will do that. My novia listens to her walk man about 3 hours a day with the tapes while excercising. I told her it is important to get in shape just in case she has to run away from immigration because I got her a job as a babysitter for one of my female stripper friends from the local strip club and she is not supposed to be working on the tourist visa.

I'm teaching my novia to speak in all pig-latin. Bet you can find the tapes to learn English at the Miami airport magazine shops.

 I was having a similar problem when my wife at the time came to live with me in the States. Even thought she had taken about 6 months of eglish courses, I couldn't get her to speak english. Finally I stopped speaking spanish at home. I would speak to her in english and she would answer me in spanish. This lasted about a month then finally she started speaking to me in english and we never went back to spanish. Also , I enrolled her at a community college to take ESL courses. After about a year and a half she was reading and writing at the college level and able to take whatever classes she liked.
