Congratulations Mr. soon to be dad or papa or whatever you prefer.  It sounds like you are both very happy about the news and with your marriage.  Thanks for sharing with us your good fortune.

Take care.

Gene,

That's Great news indeed.  My wife and I have been married about 2 1/2 years now.  We just had our first child a few months ago.  I would like to see if those of us who are married could get a group together even if it is just through e-mail.  I know other married guys have approached me since I am one of the veterans with being married the longest of most people with questions and things.  We are going to Cali for x-mas to bring the new addition to the family to meet everyone.  You guys going south for the holidays?

Congratulations!  Glade to see the little one takes after the Mom.  Just kidding of course.  Best of luck in the future.

By the way, excellent choice in the pooch, got a Blue Merle myself.  It’s like having a third parent.

Yeah we have been wrestling with this ourself. A couple of big factors are

(1) Cost about $3,000.00 for the family to go home. There are 3 of and the best deal that I have seen from Dallas to Cali is about $650 a ticket (if you book it now it is $1100 a ticket). Then after other expenses it would easily be $3,000.00

(2) She will be 25 weeks in December and the Doctor recommended not traveling at 28 Weeks and doctors are notorioulsy wrong by weeks on how far along you are.

(3) My medical insurance would not cover pregnancy problems out of the country nor would any supplemental insurance that I can find. They would cover emergency treatment only and their definition is life threatening and then only at 80% and only after I pay all the costs up front and then hopefully get reimbursed.

For me it is just not worth the risk especially with the fact that Cali and Columbia can be a dangerous place at times.

We have been trying to find a way to bring her mother to the states for when the baby is born and getting a tourist visa for her mother seems impossible. Her mother does not have a job right now and does not own any property, have a substantial business or other compelling reasons to return to Columbia.

ANY IDEAS ON THE TOURIST VISA THING WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

I just traveled to Peru. Round trip via American Airlines cost me $698. And Peru is south Colombia. Should review the Spaniss-speaking news paper. You will find lost of Spanish-speaking travel agencies that will give you a good deal.

Congratulations for the new addition to the family!

I am sure that I can get a ticket for around $650 dollars but you have to wait until you are about 60 days before travel to book it.  Right now the best deal is $1100 per ticket. The $650 is thru American Airlines.

The visa is a great idea, but again there is the expense.  I know my mother-in-law looked into it.  With all the costs for filing, going to Bogota for the approval and what not, you are looking at almost as much money.  There just isn't a cheap way to do it.  My parents have some free miles, which they are getting our tickets with.  They couldn't deprive my wife's family seeing their grandson.  Otherwise, I don't know if we would be able to afford it at this point.  Sorry I don't have an easy answer for you.
