I pulled up a post from below for fun.Bill said something about the INS making alot of money on the $1000 fee to file for amnesty.

Bill,
Hey,mayby we could sell admittance to the US,probably could get takers at $100,000 but would make more money at $10,000 a pop, with many more takers at that price.Hmmm, might pay for star wars missle system,or bump up social secuity.Plus, except for the criminals and drug dealers we would get the cream of the crop, those who can afford to pay.
You pay big bucks if you want to join a country club or stock exchange, right?
Just kidding, just kidding. We shouldn't sell what we were so fortunate to get for free.(I know some of our ancestors paid big time in hardship)

I guess I got too much time on my hands right now.

I think the desire to come to the U.S. is on the rise for all the obvious reasons.  A friend of mine in Cali sent me a note the other day about her cousin, asking for somekind of help.  Apparently customs caught him with a fake passport or visa as he was entering the States in Miami.  My friend told me he had paid US $4,000 for it which was a LOT of money for her family. Now he is seeking amnesty but realisticly he doesn't have a prayer.

Among the people I know in Cali, this is the third story I've heard of buying false documentation and one friend told me about her plan to enter the U.S. through Mexico.  This scheme was expensive also but she said the network guarentee's some kind of work.  Yea, I bet they do....

Anyway, I'm hearing more of these kind of stories among people I know.

ED,
I think all these ammnesty deals are incouraging people to take more risks to get here.I think they figure if they can just get in the country and wait they have a chance to become permanent, where they have no chance otherwise.
Coming through Mexico,Canada,by boat,on foot accross the desert, smuggled in in a car, they are willing to chance it and will pay alot of money, huge money to them, for help.
The worst thing I heard of is the chinese coming in in a cargo container,in the bottom of a ship, they can't get out and many die there. And the rest get sent back where they were trying to escape from.
Another example that bothers me.Locally there was a bordello busted a couple of years ago.The girls were from China and had to work 2 years to pay back the people that got them in.The 2 years were almost up,they get busted and sent home, and the press made it sound like the police were doing them a favor, saving them from this life and sending them back.
Or shutting down the makeshift labor camp of some Mexican illegal farm workers, sending them home and making it sound like they were saved from bad conditions. They got sent home to alot worse, minus the ability to make some money.
Consider what we have here if people are willing to go through this to get here. What devine providence made us so lucky?Maybe we have a duty that goes with it.
