Hi Everyone,

I just received my visa to go to Brazil, and I thought I would pass on the info.  Total cost, visa and postage, but not the passport, was about $70.  It is good for 5 years, up to 180 days per year, but not more than 90 days per visit (extendable)

It took me about a week to get it, and I sent everything by US Postal service.  The cost is much much less if you go into a post office and do this.  You can send it Certified mail, and get a receipt for when they receive the packet also.  Your best bet is to go to the post office and explain what you are trying to do, they will hand you the various envelopes and figure it all out for you.

Here's the link to the consulate.
http://www.brazilmiami.org/
NOTE: Make sure you get the address of the consulate for your state, don't just send it to Miami's consulate.

You will need to get the visa form from their site.

You will also need the following.

Valid passport (Minimum validity 6 months). Passport must have at least two blank VISA pages.

One individual photo, passport size (2x2") and type, front view, uncovered (no coin or domestic photos).  (I got mine at Walgrens for $7.95, fast and inexpensive)

One application form, duly filled in (Blanks 1-27), and signed (Signature must be original, no faxed forms).

Photocopy of round-trip ticket, itinerary or letter from travel agency/airline, confirming purchase of round-trip ticket, including dates of departure and return (for airline employees photocopy of airline ID card).

Payment of a US$ 10.00 handling fee for all applications submitted by agent (EITHER CASH OR US POSTAL MONEY ORDER), or by mail (US POSTAL MONEY ORDER ONLY). (You will need to get a postal money order for $55 total) [US Citizens will pay US$ 45.00 for a tourist visa when applying in person, or US$ 55.00 when applying by mail.]

You must include a return envelope. [the Consulate will ONLY return documents via US POSTAL SERVICE such as: First Class, Certified, Priority or Express Mail. Therefore, you MUST enclose a self-addressed and pre-stamped envelope for the return of the documents. Documents WILL NOT be returned via any courier services such as: DHL, FEDEX, UPS, AIRBORNE and others. ]

Good luck if you decide to go, and I hope this info makes it easier for you to get your visa.

Going to Belém on July 13th, so I probably won't catch up to you all.  Can I hear more about your trip?  Have you been there before, is it with an agency?
