AOS complete!

Sallie and I went to Portland yesterday for the AOS interview. Walang problemas! The lady was very nice she asked us how we met ect.. She asked me if I had met her mom& dad and if I remembered their names. For the life of me, I couldn't remember their names.
The only thing we had in both our names was a joint checking account which we just got couple of weeks ago. I waited until we had the EAD card before we got her SS card. Without a social security number, you cannot put your utility bills in both names or even get a fishing license. After explaining about the delay in getting the EAD card, she understood we didn't have time to have things put in both of our names. All of our paper works was in order and after about 10 minutes, she stamped Sallie's passport and approved the AOS.
She was going to take the EAD card and keep it but I told her we needed to have the name changed on Sallie's passport and how would she prove she was authorized to work w/o the EAD card while her passport is being processed in San Francisco, so she gave it back to us and allowed us to keep it.

Does anyone know how long the Philippine embassy in San Francisco takes to change the name and issue a new passport? Also what is the cost?

Hi Hum and Sallie,

We are still waiting on the Green Card. I was recently told by BCIS that they are so badly backlogged that it could take a year or more after the AOS interview (7 months so far) to get the card. Probably about the time we are petitioning to remove conditions. (

Hey, that was pretty fast for AOS. In some districts you have to wait 1-2 years for an interview.

I don't know about your area, but down here the easiest way to get a passport changed, or for any other consular services, is through a local travel agent. There are several Filipino travel agents in San Diego who specialize in Philippine consular services. For about a $25-$40 fee, they will take your application and passport to the consulate for you and handle everything. They have all the application forms and will help you fill them out also. Check around your area or look for ads in the Filipino newspapers.

Otherwise, check the San Francisco consulate's Web site for instructions on how to mail in your application. She will need to register the marriage and apply for the passport change.
