Ummmmmm, I spoke to my Mahal last nite relaying the information from the board about her need for MMR Vaccination(if she never got the measles, mumps, rubella); DT, Diptheria and Tetamus vaccine. Plus Polio, Hepatitus A and Hepatitus B Vaccines. She told me that she had her recommended checkup last week and her private Doctor informed her becuz of her age 30 years old and the fact that she's healthy, that she only need to eat, drink healthy and take her Vitamins. Doctor told her that adult Pinays no need for any kinda Vaccinations whatsoever at their adult age, only for Filipino youngsters. I told her that she should get second or third opinions from other good Doctors. What do you think of her Doctor's advice??? Thanks, greg

The concerned Vaccines are for her own personal health, not for Visa to travel to the USA. Better safe than sorry, you know. It's a good thing that the Embassy require the Pinays to get a complete health checkup for their Visas, otherwise most Pinays don't have the funds to visit the Hospital for Vaccines etc. I even took things farther and volunteered to pay for her little sisters and brothers Vaccines. As I mentioned before; Meningtis is alive and well there in the Philippines, many Pinays and Pinoys are Deaf(lovely people) there becuz their family cannot afford to pay for the Vaccines, to them it's a luxury. I'm 46 years old, back in my time there weren't many Vaccines. The modern public are lucky that there are so many Vaccines to prevent diseases, so I'm making sure that my Son in the Philippines, his Mom and the her family children get their Vaccines. BTW, I know it would surprise you all to know that Greg is Hard of Hearing, I myself became sick with Meningtis Spinal Cord disease at age eight years old when Vaccines were unavailable. So, I thank God that the Vaccines are available at this present time to the public to prevent Deafness, Blindness and even Death. Hopefully everyone will make sure that their loved ones receive their Vaccines, you never know; those Virus still show up in America, and those without the Vaccines can catch it. Most hearing impaired people you see here got that way from the dread Meningtis, even the Blind. I enjoy traveling to the Philippines to also visit with the hearing impaired Filipinos which are countless there. If you really want a good honest Pinay, give a disabled Pinay a chance; even the Disabled AWs here in USA are good Women if given a chance. Why did I travel to the Philippines if the Disabled women are good already here? Becuz my ex Pinay here told me exciting and good things about her Pinay Sisters overbroad; I wanted to find out for myself. Yeah, I met a good God fearing Christian hearing Pinay(my Son's Mom), unfortunately she's married to another Pinoy(separted for eight years), not her fault, she thought that she was unmarried at the time she became involved with me. Give Love a chance, no matter the race or if the person is disabled. You never know, she can be a Gem. I recall Don2222 speaking of his Mahal's disabled friend, he said that she was the best of all the Pinays he met, I know for a fact that he stands correct, If I was free; then of course I would not walk but run searching for Don2222 to get her address lol. :-o greg

1. DT should be refreshed every 10 years, but that's an "ideal" - how many US citizens refresh their DT every 10 years???

2. No need for MMR in adults, with the possible exception of rubella because of pregnancy complications. It is easy to determine whether sufficient rubella antibodies are present by doing an anti-titer test. If there are questions whether she received MMR in her childhood or whether she ever had rubella, this should be done prior to your Mahal getting pregnant in order to determine whether she should get rubella vaccine.

3. No need for Polio (as I had mentioned before, even in children this has become very controversial!)

4. Hepatitis B might be advisable if she regularly gets in contact with blood, for example if she works as a nurse in a hospital. Under those circumstances it's mandatory in US, and I assume in the PI too. If she is not a nurse or doctor, it's optional.

5. Hepatitis A is sometimes recommended for travellers to 3rd World Countries. Am not sure about WHO recommendations regarding Hepatitis A for residents of 3rd World countries. The good news is, that Hep A is much less serious than Hep B!

So basically your Mahal's doctor is correct with the exception of DT and sometime before she gets pregnant her rubella immunity should be tested.

Sounds like a crock. Personally, I would have her get
her vaccinations anyway. If by some chance she
happens to contract  measles, mumps, etc as an
adult...it will be more dangerous than as a child.

Chances are that if she didn't get MMR, she had these diseases in her childhood (unlike US, where vaccination rates are very high though regrettably declining lately, these diseases are more common overseas). If she in fact had, then giving her the vaccine "just in case" would not only be superfluous but also dangerous. YOU NEED TO BE CAREFUL HERE!

But you are correct that measles and mumps are more serious in adults than in children!
