I have read everyone's comments now and my conclusion is that I think a meal is the appropriate measure except in certain exceptions.
Some guys meet the ladies at an agency not over dinner and go from there. Obviously if you have had any form of correspondence going on or the lady has undergone any form of hardship to see you, you have to respect this with showing her a nice time with a nice meal..
