Title: sending fed express or DHL to Colombian Post by: adventuro on December 20, 2004, 05:00:00 AM looking for anyone with experience of sending something fed express or DHL from the US to Colombia............especially if you have sent it to Cartagena. But any experience would be helpful. I have to have an application for a loan sent to me, seems they cannot send it email or by fax, something to do with a bar code on the application. It would just be paper work, nothing more, but is all the mail stuck in customs or something for a week, or do things get here within from a day to maybe three days. Just got down here from Seattle and looks like I will have to spend two days flying back just to sign a piece of paper. Any help would be appreciated as to your experience with the time thing. And for anyone thinking of heading south..........god, there are alot of sexy, scantily clad women walking the streets of this ancient city..................too bad I have a girl friend already............but, for those who don't.............alot of them have that lonely look in their eyes waiting for their dream guy to arrive!! thanks in advance for any insight into my problem.

FedEx is the way to go, IF the item is a letter or normal financial-type paper work the FedEx can handle it rather promptly. The miminum charge to any South American country is $39.00 USD. If it is like 3/5 pounds get you wallet out. Should take less than 7 days. If you have to have a customs form my advice would be to put it in both English and Spanish. my ex-novia sent some xmas gifts a few years ago regular parcel post. I think our post office ended up shipping it to Colombia via skiff - needless to say her family had xmas in July. On the other hand, I have sent Fex Ex envelops both directions and enjoyed prompt service. i had no problems with DHL, but UPS, WOW what a bunch of idiots, lost a package and it took them 4 days to find it. two weeks later, it was finally delivered. Aventuro, FedEx flys 5 days a week into Bogotá and from there the freight is flown on Feeder aircraft around Colombia. FedEx also has offices in all of the major Colombian cities. I also just had closing documents for a property I bought sent to Medellín and they arrived on the second day. You can also track the location of your package as it flys around the world using the package tracking number on www.fedex.com. I've sent numerous documents and packages in and out of Colombia using FedEx and never had a problem. They are the best. When my wife and I were busy getting the paperwork pulled together for our marriages in Colombia (civil and Catholic), I was sending so much stuff FedEx that I had my own account. FedEx never let me down and there were times when the documents had to be there pronto - guaranteed three days. Hell, the whole experience made me watch "Castaway" again and want to go to work for Fred Smith. I love FedEx!!!!!!!!!!! I will have to agree with you regarding FedEx... I started using them last year after I kept seeing their delivery trucks around the streets of Bogota. I have sent several packages both last year and this year during the holiday season and all of my packages have arrived pronto. You can even track your shipment online as it passes all of the checkpoints etc... I have only sent packages from NJ to Bogota so I do not know how extensive they might be in other parts of Colombia. I have no complaints with their service and I will continue to use them. The rates are on the website. You can put in your estimated weight and type of package(letter, box etc.) and get an estimate. I think a simple letter can be about $35-50 dollars. |
