Hey Outwest, A very good rule to follow is: Never believe anything you read in a chat room. You really have no idea who, how many, how old, or even the sex of the person or persons on the other keyboard. Chat rooms are great for entertainment, but don't expect to find a wife there. You might get real lucky like a few others have, but the odds are just too great against you. Well, it is possible they mean Love as a friend, but more likely they have dream & reality confused, so you are right to be cauious. HERE I GO AGAIN, "I agree with Hum." How can you know if you truly love someone until you meet them in person and spend time together. I can not tell you how many men have proposed love or even marriage in 1st or 2nd letter to me, so it ( whatever IT is :-) works both ways. And yes, it certainly weakens their credibility. So, either work through it to develop true feelings or go on to find more rational minded person as I do. I really like the down-to-Earth personalities you can talk to without them jumping to conclusions or judgements before they understand. OK, having said that; Jerry and I both have used the L word though we have not met ( in letter #103). When I told him that made us "Lovers" he really liked that we could be considered Lovers without seX involved. I liked that he felt that way. So, do as I say do, not as I do do. (No, that was not a potty joke ;-) Blessings, Jean Title: Re: Lovers without meeting ... the Magic of LD Romance ;-) Post by: Jeff S on August 16, 2001, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to Lovers without meeting ... the Magic o..., posted by FilipinaCupid on Aug 16, 2001
It's interesting that people profess their love in letters to people they've never met. Love, to me, is a verb, something you do rather than something you feel. Sure, chemical attraction (puppy love, lust, love at first sight, whatever you want to call it) is one of the least reliable long term attractants between people - and I'm guessing confusing this with real love is why the divorce rate is so high. Look at arranged marriages, picture brides, and the old fashioned genuine mail order brides. I've heard people say that there could be no love betwen these people and it was merely the social stigma of the times that kept these people together (mostly hardcore feminists). I say horse hockey. Do you really imagine that these marriages were actually prisons for the people involved? No, they learned to love each other because thay had that committment to success. These marriages were no worse or no better than those who made eac other's heart go pitter pat while holding hands on the porch glider. I'm not suggesting a person should marry someone who doesn't make their heart go pitter pat, of course this is an extra incentive to making a go of something that's difficult and not a statistical slam dunk. I'm saying that genuine committment and loyalty are far more necessary to a successful marriage than is early chemistry. -- Jeff S. |
