Has anyone gone through this process recently? I need some advice from some one with recent experience.

dont do the spousal visa, unless you are 110% sure she is the one, because if she isnt, your going to get screwed if she decides after a month, that your not the one for her. use the k1, or whatever it is now, and if she has a child, and you two dont work out, you might get stuck paying for the child too,if you marry her in her country. ask "pete" on the board, he's going to get screwed here soon.

There's no doubt she's the one. We are getiing married in December. The advice I am looking for is about doing it myself or hiring an attorney. I researched the subject and the process seems pretty straight forward. I just want to know from some one that has gone this route recently if it is as straight forward as it seems. It can't be anymore difficult than filing an IPO with the SEC. Or can it?

yep, anybody that can fill out a form with all the info can fill out the INS forms too. i can never understand why someone would pay a lawyer $1000 to fill out some paperwork, unless their is some kind of off the wall problem. i think their is  a "do it yourself kit" you can buy to help you with it, if you get stuck.

Unless there are some unusual circumstances, utilizing a lawyer would not only cost money but require more time to complete the process (dealing with the middleman step).  All an attorney or anyone else for that matter could do is organize the information that you provide anyway - and the intructions certainly are very clear on how to do that.
