Cientos de mexicanos 'importan' cubanos a cualquier precio
Hundreds of Mexicans are 'importing' Cubans at whatever cost

Centenares de mexicanos, en su mayoría mujeres, pagan miles de dólares por "importar"  cubanos, famosos por sus presuntas artes amatorias y que llegan a México bajo promesa de matrimonio, pero no son pocos los fraudes y desencantos, reveló una investigación periodística.

Hundreds of Mexicans, the majority of them women, are paying thousands of dollars to "import" Cubans, famous for their presumed amorous arts and arriving in Mexico under the promise of matromony, but fraud and discontentment aren't rare, reveled the newspaper investigation.

Según el diario mexicano La Crónica, que citó fuentes de la embajada mexicana en La Habana, en el 2002, fueron legalizados 1019 matrimonios binacionales, incluyendo  611 peticiones de mujeres y 408 de hombres.

According to the Mexican daily The Chronicle, which cited sources in the Mexican embassy in Havana, that in 2002, there were 1019 binational marriages, includying 611 petetions from woman and 408 from men,

El rotativo añade que en igual periodo, se registraron mil matrimonios entre cubanos e italianos y más de cuatro mil con españoles.

The newspaper continued that in the same period, 1000 marriages between Cubans and Italians were registered and more than 4000 with Spainards.

Los matrimonios entre extranjeros y cubanos subieron a principios de 1990, cuando el gobierno de Fidel Castro vio en el turismo la clave para impulsar  la economía del país.

The marriages between foreigners and Cubans increased since begenning in 1990, when the government of Fidel Castro saw in tourism the key to 'jump starting' the ecconomy of the country.

De inmediato, los cubanos vieron un negocio en los amoríos con turistas. Sobre todo luego de considerar los peligros de huir en balsas frágiles.
La embajada de Estados Unidos otorga cada año 20 mil visas, pero la demanda cubana se multiplica hasta por tres.

Immediatly, the Cubans saw an opportunity in the love (affairs) with tourists. Above all they began to consider the dangers of escaping on fragile rafts. The United States releases 20,000 visas each year, but the Cuban demand is threefold.

El diario mexicano citó al ex secretario de la embajada mexicana en la isla, Gilberto Calderón, autor de diversos ensayos sobre la sexualidad cubana.
 "Los cubanos son muy atractivos para los extranjeros porque son de todas las razas", explica Calderón, tras destacar que la isla es un imán para los europeos que van en busca de personas negras o mulatas, los mexicanos por blancas o rubias. "Todos son muy sensuales aparentemente".

The Mexican daily cited the former secretery of the Mexican embassy on the island, Gilberto Calderon, author of diverse essays about Cuban sexuality. "The Cubans are attractive for all the foreigners because they are of all races", explained Calderon, after pointing out the island is a magnet for Europeans looking for negros or mulatos, the Mexicans for whites or blonds. "Aparently they are all very sensual".

 Muchos extranjeros, añade, "Van a Cuba con la esperanza de encontrar una pareja con mayor facilidad". La variedad incluye  desde jovencitos hasta gente considerada físicamente atractiva. "Los cubanos capitalizan esta necesidad".

Many foreigners, he continued, "Go to Cuba in the hope of finding a partner very eaisly". The varriety ranges from the very young to the ones considered physicaly attractive. "The Cubans capitalize (on) this need".

 México exige tres mil dólares de depósito en caso de que el invitado no sea padre, madre, hijo o hermano de quien invita, dijo la fuente.
 Registros oficiales indican que de los siete mil 800 cubanos que llegaron en el 2002 a Estados Unidos desde 1999, cuatro mil 200 lo hicieron cruzando a través de México.

Mexico extracts a three thousand dollar bond in the case of the invited one is not the parent, child or sibling of the inviting one, said the source.
Registration officials indicated that of 7,800 Cubans that arrived in the United States between 1999 and 2002, 4,200 of them entered through Mexico.
