Title: Don't go to Columbia Post by: AfroMan on October 14, 2003, 04:00:00 AM Dear Brothers in arms (so to speak) I've only posted a few times on this board, but I've enjoyed reading. I've found a wonderful African Woman that I'm gonna take a chance with. Thanks to you guys I've been able to avoid some pitfalls and pickup quite a few pointers. Enought of the praise. What alarms me is the information I'm getting on Columbia. Americans should not travel there at this point. It's simply not safe for us right now. I know you can get hurt or worst right hear in the US of A, but Americans are targets in that region. I know many of you will still take the chance, and I say to you " handle your business and get back home."

The question about going to Colombia has been a persistent issue on this forum. If you take the advice of the US State Department, no American citizen would ever go there. But for those of us who have been there, it is not nearly as scary as the warnings would lend you to belief. As per example, one of my trips to Cali I went bike riding with one of local ladies. I like Cali in some ways better than Santiago. However, to trivialize the danger of Colombia would be foolish. There is real danger in Colombia no doubt about it if you happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I once stayed at an apart hotel in Cali that was partially damaged by a bomb the week after I stayed there. By following some general safety rules, which have been talked about a lot on this forum, the odds of an incident are small. Your tolerance to risk should make the decision for you. If you are uncomfortable about it, simply don’t go, there are many other places to go, Colombia being just one. As I have said many times, in my opinion, the beauty of the Colombian women is a bit overstated on this forum by men who don’t have any real experience in other LA countries. If you are looking for a latina wife, you really have many choices. mike Title: AfroMan, can you share Your Colombia Travel Post by: greg on October 14, 2003, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to Don't go to Columbia, posted by AfroMan on Oct 14, 2003

No matter how many times I hear about the danger in Colombia, I never hear a story about a gringo who has been kidnapped or harmed. I'm not saying that we shouldn't be cautious. Of course there is danger. But the danger there is continuously blown out of proportion. Each person has to determine for himself where they want to go. I just returned from Bogota last night. I even ventured out to to a small city some 300 Kilometers to visit my ladys family. In the end then there was absolutly no trouble and the trip was beautiful. Again I saw numerous Americans in Bogota. When visiting any city, it is always necessary to be careful, but I'll say this in conclusion. I gerally feel safer in Bogota than in other places I visit here in the US. I won't say to anyone to go or not go as in the end each person must make their own selection, but the danger thing is over hyped in Colombia. The closest I have been to a "target" is when I shop, the salesperson is very happy as they know I will most likely be making a purchase since I'm a foreigner. be it Colombia, Peru, Mexico, DR....wherever your search takes you outside the U.S. Afro-Man, best of luck to you & yours, but you can be a target (unintentional or not) anywhere! I'm not trying to belittle the hazards of traveling to Colombia (or anywhere for that matter). But whatever info you're currently referring too, it's no excuse to dismiss visiting Colombia or any other country that men seek lifemates...
