Can somebody give me an idea of how much money to budget for my upcoming trip to Cali? How much is dinner for two at a nice restaurant? How much does a night of dancing cost? How much do you spend on breakfast and lunch? on taxis? anything else? Thanks.

I've found the third rule works pretty good for budgeting, i.e. peso now is near 3,000 to 1 (rounded up), so figure a $30 meal at a decent restaraunt in the states for 2 - convert and divide by 3 for down there is pretty close to average (of course all you need to do is tack on three zeros to your dollar amount) - so $30 US equivalent meal about 30,000 CP is not far fetched.

Taxis are different, minimum drop about $1,500 with my average short rides about $3,000 to $5,000. Traversing north to south more obviously.

The minimum taxi is now $2.100 and recently some drivers are saying it's $2.200.

OK, then I'll stick my oar in about his Spanish. Buddha, since you titled your post in Spanish I assume you are eager to learn and will take this in the right spirit. "Cuando" means "when", and is spelled "¿cuánto?" when it is used as part of a question. "Cuanto" means "how much" and is spelled "¿cuánto?" when used as part of a question.

You are correct that I am trying to learn spanish and will take all the help I can get. I don't think that will my last blunder. I knew the part about the question mark. I just didn't know how to type it. Thanks

El Diccionario de los usos correctos del español (Estrada, 1997) makes the specific point that using an exclamation or question mark only at the end of a sentence is incorrect. It would be illogical to leave it off, because of the way it is ingrained in Spanish punctuation; the leading mark is inserted where the exclamation or interrogation begins, which is often not at the beginning of the sentence.

I said, "I believe they are dropping..." that would imply current trend, not as it was in 1997.

I couldn't speak from personal knowledge so I confirmed it with my resident professora before mentioning it.

Diccionario del español actual (Manuel Seco, et. al., Aguilar, 1999), says: "...son dobles, es decir, deben escribirse al comienzo y al final de nuestra pregunta o exclamación, respectivamente." The Seco dictionary is specifically a snapshot of current--correct--trends as of 1999.
