Title: Question For Brazilophile
Post by: PeterGibbons on August 11, 2003, 04:00:00 AM
Brazilophile, help me understand this controversy.  According to members of another forum:

1) A real photo of you appears on that website

2) Your real name appears on that website

3) Your real nationality appears on that website

4) Your real current city of residence appears on that website

5) Your real profession appears on that website

6) You really are bisexual as stated on that website

Please note that in this post I have not posted the link to the website in case it is not "your" website.

However, there are only three possible explanations:

1) Aaron is the world's greatest detective

2) You post a lot of very private info on very public forums

OR

3) That is your website but now regret making and promoting it

Well?  Which is it?

Why do YOU care, since when does Brazilophile a long time poster on this forum owe you anything let alone a response to your insinuating questions about sophomoric web site???

Get a life!

The organization I am affiliated with posts biographical information, including a photo, about some of its staff on its web site.  I am in the staff category for which biographical information is made public.  Friends and acquaintances have seen this (and a prior) bio-page.  It doesn't take great detective work to find it.  The geocities thing is the first concerted malicious attack I have suffered, since this practice was started, (about 8 years ago).

B.,

I had a similar problem recently with a photo of Maria and me that was pirated and used on a fake agency site. Geocities has a good policy in this regard and within a week or so, they pulled the plug on the site. If they are using a photo w/o your approval, with a minimum of effort you can have the site shut down. Email me offline and I'll give you the run down. You can also search the archives for the episode in question. Happened back in March as I recall.

Hi JR,

Thanks for the offer of help.  I can't find your email address.

Sorry for not responding sooner.  My laptop, with Win XP, got hit by the Blaster Worm.  I spent many hours, over 2 days, learning about it, getting rid of it, and prevent re-infection.

I'll check the archives this week-end.

P.S.  Yahoo emailed me saying they investigated the site and took appropriate action.
