Title: My wife entered US on spousal visa
Post by: lswote on March 23, 2003, 05:00:00 AM
Friday I brought my wife to the US.  She stood with me in the "US citizens/residents only" line.  When we got to the window, she gave the person at the window the visa packet she had gotten from the American embassy in Bogota.  The person then directed us to this room where another person processed her paperwork and put an entry visa in her passport good for 2 years.  We were told her green card will be mailed to us.  There were 2 or 3 other people in front of us and our total wait time in this room was about 30 minutes.

Next time she enters US she will not have any wait.

congratulations!!  This time next week I will be a married man.  Everytime you post I read it. You have been a good source of info. Your posts are meaty instead of being filled with B.S.  I hope to follow suite with some good informational posts when I complete this phase of the process.

Congratulations on finally being together in the US.

Could you please tell us the port of entry you two used?  I hear stories that the ease or difficulty of entry into the US depends on the gateway a couple uses.

I apologize for not mentioning that in my original message.  I came into the US at Miami.

I am EXTREMELY relieved to be through the process.  In retrospect the reality of the matter is that there really weren't that many be reasons to be stressed out.  Things did get cut close when we went to apply for the spousal visa, as we were late arriving for our appointment because the notary was late signing our wedding certificate.  And I only got the necessary documents Fedexed from my wife (when she was still my fiancee) to get the Colombian marriage visa the day before the Colombian consulate appointment.

But other than that, things actually went quite smooth.  It was the concern that I was dealing with various government agencies I had no control over that made it so difficult not to get worried.

Good luck to you too Mark.  Please email me if you have any questions about the process when your time comes.

Opps, my bad, guess I was thinking about somebody else.  Oh well, tell her we all said "welcome, glad you're here".
