Title: Snoop Doggy Dog does Brazil
Post by: bogota vet on March 17, 2003, 05:00:00 AM
[This message has been edited by bogota vet]

The latest Snoop Doggy Dog video on MTV is shot in Brazil. It is a 6 minute video , with a nice montage of Brazil , it appears to be Rio area.
Snoop and his cohort Pharrell have all the Brazilan women fawning over them.
There even a 30 second segment with a Brazilan samba (African beat)band, everyone having a good time.

(BTW: JayZ has hot new video also. all those nice LA California black women, makes me want to back to Cali)

is for hoodlums, players, and gangsters visiting Latin America to meet the women. Now, I really wish Snoop Doggy Dog would have stayed in jail. They should have thrown away the key.

I'm too much of a player hater.

It just points out, Brazil is going mainstream now, eveyone is getting into the act.

All those European guys have known all along, now the US gringos making a move.
I cannot beliwve how many German agencies are on the web for Brazil. No wonder why so few Euros bother with Colombia.
Brazil easier to get too , plenty of agencies.

Aaron,
Agreed.
Brazilians might get the impression that all americans are like the jive talking fool you can find on most any street corner in major US cities.Words of wisdom they do not posses,or even start to understand.Follow their lead and it can be jail, early death or total inability to function in life.
What ignorant nonsense.Too bad it somehow became cool.

Yes,I thought of that. And there is some truth in it.But I'm not knocking music, which I don't think it is anyway.Listen to the lyrics.Talk about stupid negative stuff.
Yes there is always the generational thing. But beyond generational outlook there is the question of what it is we are talking about. My dad hated Elvis,I think it was because he shook his hips. But what he said wasn't bad.
You are what you listen too, think about ,emulate. Some kids are in big trouble.A diet of sh!t will screw up your thinking.
However,I would usually just settle for those playing the stuff to roll up their windows. We are sitting at an intersection and f--k this and f--k that is coming out of their car.I thought I would be the last person to tell others what to do,but this is obsenity.

"Tutti frutti" might have been stupid lyrics, actually it was the rocking sound that made it a hit.I think Richard was making a statement about himself that few understood at the time.
But "I shot that mutherf----r " is stupid on a very real level. It glamorizes behavior that will really screw up your life. And attitudes not likely to make you a success unless you are one guy in 20,000,000 who can get paid for spewing out such lyrics. And makes really stupid thinking appear cool to an audience that is ,well, trying hard to be as stupid.
There was a difference between Guy Lombardo type stuff and rocking wild sounding music. There is a whole different distinction between that and obsenity laced talk to Rap lyrics that glamorize all sorts of disgusting ideas and behavior. Its a whole different thing, not just a change of beat and rythum.
Also,I bet you don't have to be and old fart to think so,although I guess it helps.
I never wanted to be like my old man.I think there is a real difference here.Maybe the I think it sounds stupid part of it is similar to his reaction, but the lyrics are a whole different thing.
Do any of you guys actually like this stuff or are you just trying to be cool about it,not like your old man?
Actually my wife and step son seem to like this stuff somewhat.I think they are just trying to be cool.Maybe they like the beat.I was tolerating it awhile back in the car untill the guy got to the  f--k this and f--k that part. Then I turned it off."Thats sh!t,not music,I told them. Not what an 11 year old should be listening to I don't think.

I like some of it. The same as Tutti Fruity, many times they have a good groove, only to find out on closer listen that the lyrics are a bit over the top. Many of those guys are growing up now. They will learn from their youthful mistakes or wind up dead like Tupac etc.

Most smart kids realize that much of the lyrical content is a front or an act. Just like with bands like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin etc. Ozzy is a complete whacko, but I seriously doubt he worships the devil.

Nobody wants to like the same music their parents did. That is cool, but it just means every generations music has to be even MORE rebellious and more controversial etc. I'm sure you parents caught crap for listening to swing or jazz etc. heaven forbid the blues.

When Mick Jagger still sings "Can't get no . . . . .satisfaction", does anybody still believe him? ;-)

I like some of it as well.  Rap gets a bad "rap."  Most people don't realize that there are differences in rap music.  So-called "gangster rap" is generally found by most people to be offensive.  Rap, for those who know it is quite diversified.  After all, it is only poetry spoken to a funky beat.  Snoop-Dog will go down in musical history as one of the all-time greats, a real pioneer...mark my words!

Having said that, I personally find some of the lyrics offensive and downright atrocious.  On the other hand, those who appreciate "this generation's" music can find some rap "tunes" that many musicians consider "genious."  One does not have to condone an Artist's lifestyle to appreciate his or her "work."

I can recall quite clearly the reation my father had when he "busted" me blasting some Jimi Hendrix, Iron Butterfly, Grand Funk Railroad, Yes, and Pink Floyd in the basement.  I was well equipped as too.  Incense burning, black lights, strobe lights, lava lamps and glowing posters on the wall.  Posters of gorgeous women wearing "hot pants" and mini skirts also on the wall.  He thought I must have lost my mind!  LOL!!!

In later years, my parents came to visit me in my first "bachelor's pad."  It was also their first time hearing Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Bunny Wailer.  They just shook their head and figured that I had completely "lost it!"  LOL!!!  There is no winning that battle!

Be easy on this generation.  After all, which generation did they learn all this stuff from?  Peace!

If one of the many 'unofficial' fan web sites is correct, he probably had to clean it up for 'air play'...according to that site, the orginal lyrics went like this: A wop bop a loo mop a good goddam, Tutti Frutti, good booty, if it don't fit, don't force it, you can grease it, make it easy...

While we're on the subject, did you catch the news that Hank Ballard went to that big gig in the sky a couple of weeks ago?

Aaron,
That was tragic actually.Marvin Gay was a great singer and I think an OK guy untill he got so screwed up with drugs that his own dad ,a minister, shot him in self defense.
Maybe you are right, legalization would not be a good idea,if it can do that to people.

COLMAN. I totally agree about many of the things he posts on. As for the hoodlums, players, and gangsters living in Colombia, well yeah that is unfortunate. However, to understand the dynamics, and the criminal elements of Colombia, you have to consider everything from poverty, corruption, lack of education, inequality, lack of opportunity, and also unilateral policies from the US and other Latin American nations. I don't think the gangsters of the USA can be placed in the same category with the Colombian gangsters, especially when there are opportunities here that people can take advantage of to better themselves.
