A powerful car bomb exploded inside one of the most exclusive clubs in Colombia's capital, killing at least nine persons and injuring 114, police and witnesses said. The blast detonated inside the Club Nogal, frequented by the war torn nation's elite and foreign diplomats. The U.S. Ambassador's residence is behind the Club Nogal. Fire fighters said many people were trapped inside the building.

I am in Bogota and was about 1 mile away from the explosion.  I was getting married last night and I heard the explosion just after the ceremony began.  It sound like one of those loud starburst fireworks.  I suspected that it was a bomb, but obviously I had other things on my mind at the time so I didn't investigate it.

I love Colombia but I just hate this part of it.  Terrorism is never right.

I guess it wasn't fireworks celebrating your wedding!Congratulations,I hope all is going well.Seems like you made great progrees in the last few months.It seems fairly recently you were figuring out another girl was not the right one but all sounds good with the new girl,your wife.
So much for Bogota being an island of relative safety in Colombia.I guess that mith was exploded.Uribe's actions have got the rebels riled up,now he needs to follow up and get rid of them.I wonder when he plans to start.So far he raised taxes and is supposedly building up the military.Hopefully he will go after them big time real soon,hitting them with everything he has.Its long long overdue.These a--holes have had Colombia screwed up way too long.

Uribe has stepped up the war on the guerillas. This urban bombing campaign is in reaction to that. Thank the IRA bastards for this new tactic.

There will be no quick victory. Uribe has to stay the course and win the war one dead guerilla at a time.

Urban terrorists can be hard to fight,but in this case they know where the leaders of the FARC are.Pastrana was negotiating with them.(and they screwed him every time)I think they need to just go in an get them.With no FARC strongholds or area they control and no visable leadership left the urban guirillas would be left without support and with little hope of winning anything.I am just happy they haven't been able to do more with all the money they get from drug protection.And I hope the US will give more support to Colombia in getting rid of them.Troops they don't need.Equipment and even air support could be usefull.
And as far as the drug money---.I saw Bill Bennet,the former drug Czar on TV.He said when he was drug Czar they knew where the all the major drug labs in Colombia were.He lobbied to have them hit with air strikes.All the drug labs could have been rubble by morning.More timid souls in the government opposed this.I guess they didn't want to take any political heat.I would say with the approval of the Colombian government(Uribes OK would be enough,you will never get consensus) and a little warning to the poor grunts who might work there,bomb the MF's.

I read Uribe is initiating (before this recent bombing) a special force made up mostly of intelligence experts whose primary purpose is finding the FARC cheiftens. A big step would be taking down Mono Joy Joy.

Sounds like a weird name for a latino.Is he on some sort of Colombiano ego trip giving himself such a name?Seems like joy would not be part of it.Is that name known in Colombia like Osama Ben Laden here?
Find out where he is and put a smart bomb down his chimney.( Hombre ,this isn't no f--king Pastrana you are dealing with anymore!!)The rest off the a--holes might wise up and go back to farming about then.
Saw a qoute in the paper today from a general in charge of US forces set to go in to Iraq.He said the Iraqi's were scared to death and would not surrender at the first shot,but when they heard the first US tank start up.
Of course we need to convince them that Saddam will not be able to get back at them.We have wimped out before here(as in Bush senior ) so they are hesitent to trust us.
After watching the antics of Saddam and FARC for years I am waiting with eager anticipation for some serious A-s kicking to come down.Won't be much of a wait for Saddam. The day he goes to talk to Allah will be a good one for humanity.Mono whoever has a little more time to wise up,if he can get his ego out of the way of his view of reality.

Pastrana's counterpart in ineptitude, Lying Bill, was on Larry King tonight.Smooth talkng piece of gutless BS .Actually I don't mean to question Pastrana's character,just his judgement.Bill,both.
I was not a big fan of Bush jr. in the elections,I favored John McCain and still do,but the man does have guts and principle.An article in the paper today talked about a turning point in his life,when he heard a minister say "the world is starved for leaders who have ethical and moral courage."Not your finger in the wind sort of guy.I disagree with him on lots of things including his tax plan,but I will give him ethical and moral courage.Compare that to a guy getting blow jobs in the oval office.And then lying to us all on TV about it.Whoops,DNA on a dress.Lying SOB caught in bold face lie to 50 million people.

I asked her.She didn't understand at first and then said oh you mean - - -,didn't sound at all like we would pronounce it in english.I said is he a bad guy?She had to think about it,then said similar to that guy in Cuba(Castro).From her attitude It seems the guy gets a little respect as some kind of folk hero.Too bad.He and his kind are killing their country.Being ambivilant about it is one of the main reasons they have been around so long.I'll take Carlos Castana for my folk hero.

Yeah the accent is on the last "Joy". I'm told by a friend who's reading it that Castana's book "My Confession" is REAL interesting. I plan to pick it up. She says he's a very intelligent guy who's father was killed by the guerrilla. You'd probobly like it but for now it's only published in Spanish.

My novia was finishing up her English classes a few blocks away and she said the windows blew out.  This is the most recent of a series of bombings in Bogotá.  Bogotá is being targeted by the guerillas and is a very dangerous place to go these days.

It is so sad as an American, happily married to a Calena, how safe we feel at home, and yet very sad and torn emotionally as my wife's country continues to be ripped to shreds by marxists and left wing animals.  I realize this can happen anywhere in the world, and may happen in our country one day, but thankful we are safe and happy.  We just returned from Cali/Palmira area during the Christmas holidays, very peaceful then and now war torn again.  Many of the people in Colombia were very positive about peace coming soon with Pres. Uribe.  I hope they are right, but now He is a large target by the FARC due to his stance on terrorism within his country.  To those of you gents in the novia/ spousal process, good luck, and may God be with you all, I have been thru the embassy trials and trips to Bogota'.   My wife is my everything, friend, companion and true love, I just let the rest of the doubting thomasas stay jealous and keep on smiling.  i hope someday soon Colombia will find peace witin its boundries.

They have updated the casualties to 20 dead and 114 injured and afraid they still may find more as they go through the parking lots. Apparently the building has a multilevel attached parking garage, which in fact was where the explosion took place, in a car parked in the garage. The reports say that it was a very exclusive club, catering to the rich and frequented by business men/women, foreigners and diplomats. Also, apparently it is next door to (or maybe across the street from, couldn't quite tell from the way they had it worded) the offical residence of the US ambasador. They didn't mention if she was injured or even at home, so I assume that she wasn't injured.

Update: Now they are saying 25 dead, 'more than' 150 injured and still looking through the rubble.
