www.freetranslation.com is pretty good and has a 85% accuracy, and pretty fast. Title: Re: translator programs on the Net? Post by: in bogota on January 13, 2003, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to translator programs on the Net?, posted by Ken2 on Jan 13, 2003
Ken, Here is a good one that several people I know use. http://www.systransoft.com Also, here are some good machine translation tips & tricks just in case anyone needs them: Avoid unnecessarily complex words and sentences. Write clearly and formally. Word your documents in such a way as to avoid idioms, clichés, colloquial expressions and slang. Consider the literal meaning of words and try to express this instead. Avoid Ambiguity, Try not to use words that have more than one meaning for example: Do not leave words out. Some words can be implied in everyday use, such as "that, which, who," etc. and are often omitted when writing text - try not to do this as they may be required in other languages. After checking www.dictionary.com, I see that I misspelled the word "dictionary" in the previous post. I just hope that Mrs Guinness, my English profesor at B.C.N.Y., is not reading this forum. Here is one I use to use. According to my Fiancee it is a little more accurate than Alta-Vista (which isn't saying a whole lot!) http://www.freetranslation.com/ Title: Re: Re: translator programs on the Net? I speak spanish so i don't use a translator but my daughter uses one that she found on Download.com. Its called IM Translator. Its designed to use with ICQ, Yahoo, or one of the other messenger services to communicate in real time but it works with text translation too. Its shareware so there's no charge and if you keep your sentences relatively short the translations seem fairly accurate. Title: Re: translator programs on the Net?
