Title: First Time To South America (ME!)
Post by: Ken Power on November 30, 2001, 05:00:00 AM
Greetings gentlemen.
I was hoping to visit Cali (the best city in Colombia for meeting women?) next year.  I have a few questions. 1.  Is the 2 Gringos book an invalueable resource?  2.  When in the best time to travel (airplane rates)?  3. How long should one stay (minimum) in order to gey aquainted with novia and her family? 4.  Where do you stay ~ with a company (b&b) for US$ 40 -45 per night or a US$ 15-20 per night?  Can't you just show up at the agency on a daily basis?  I have checked with a company called LATINBEST. They offer US500.00 life time membership.  Thus you can return without paying for a second trip, save your room, etc.   Any advise would be appreciated.

Sincerely,

ken

Ken,
The 2 gringos book is just an introduction, read this board and you will be ahead of them and more up to date.
Is Cali the place?Yes I think the number one place for gringos meeting latinas.Bogota is also good if you are looking for more educated profesional types.
Anytime but the December-January holidays will get you the best airfare, but this year I got the best price ever for me during the holidays.
I would think you should stay at least 2 weeks if you hope to meet a girl and have time to get to know her and her family. If you only have a week off work go anyway, stay both weekends also for 9 days.More time, like 4 weeks is better.
Things have changed in Cali. The hot new place is Recardo's ALL Colombian Girls.(read the posts on this site)I think you can stay for $40-45 a night, room, food and introductions included. No fee to join.I read here someone got offered a room for a month for $400.If you don't meet your lady there try Latin Encounters and Latin Best. They will charge you a fee.Try to negotiate in Cali.Try the no fee one first,I hear he has lots of girls.
Just go,you will love it.The attention of beautifull ladies will have you wondering why you were beating your head against the wall in the US.Died and gone to heaven? The happy hunting ground?Yes something like that.

Pete,

In your post, you mentioned that at allcolombiangirls.com, "I read here someone got offered a room for a month for $400".  Yeah, that was me, because I want to live in Colombia for 5 months, which is due to the fact that I want to get into a spanish immersion program to learn spanish fluently.

Five hours a day, 5 days a week, while practicing on a daily basis should get the job done!

Peace bro,

Hilton

Hilton,
What a way to go.Immersed in spanish and immersed in beautifull women. You could package this idea and sell it.Not only will you know spanish in 5 months, you will probably have a new Colombiana too. When I answered the above post I said a month was better.Of course 5 months is better yet.
Do you get full services for the $400?Introductions and translations?(of course you won't need translations for long). What a deal.Lucky you.

Title: about the girls

Ive been seriously considering a trip down to cali in January.  Ive been reading the boards here and on 2gringos for a long time now.  But theres always one little negative thought that keeps coming to my mind everytime Im motivated to get down there.  And that is.. lets say I have a successful trip and meet someone with serious potential from an agency or even off the streets,  I start to get a little concerned because after I leave,,, I wonder if she'll keep meeting more gringos or will she begin to focus on me.  I know that the test of time will reveal the awnser.  But before I invest in a trip which will lead to multiple trips (visits) I guess Im just looking for some reassurment and your experiences on this subject.

It really depends how serious about you she is and also how honest. It also depends how serious you are about her.
Yes there are girls that will be dating the next gringo as soon as you leave.Hopefully you will have assured yourself you are not dealing with one of these. On the other hand there are guys who seem serious when they are there then don't follow up,don't go down to see the girl again, thinking maybe in a year.Even the good ones will probably be gone by then.
My personal experience was I was very serious about my wife and she about me.I went back and married her 2 months later.
Go for character first.Don't go crazy over a girl where things doesn't seem to add up.Trust your intuition, not your sex drive.

We all want some kind of reassurance but It all depends on the chica and how good are your eyes to see who she really is. I know of one gringo that is dating a girl from Cali and he is blind as a bat when it comes to see this girl for who she is. I've tried to tell him a couple of times but he won't listen. He just hops back into bed with her and in 30 minutes all is forgiven. This is one of the problems with having a long distance relationship. If you do find "her", it will be all worth it. Get going and get down there and take a few swings.........you might hit a home run!

Don't forget the coastal cities of Cartagena & Barranquilla.  They do not have the agency infrastructure that Cali does, but there are plenty of women there.  Plus, those two cities are about as safe as your gonna get in Colombia...and there are beaches there. And where there are beaches, there are bikini clad women.

Good Luck,
Mike

There's a thread a little way down the page on this titled "Per intro rates".  I believe someone said that ACG (All Colombian Girls) offers a daily rate.  There are probably others as well.

ACG is listed on

I can't give a definitive answer but I strongly doubt that he can accept a credit card by phone though he may able to do it on site. But you raise an interesting question. In my experience busineses in Cali at least ones I've tried, aren't set up for telephone credit card transactions. For example I couldn't pay a travel agent there over the phone for a trip I bought. Fortunately I planned ahead and signed a visa voucher which a friend held untill I gave the go a head. However I did make a purchase once in Bogota by signing a faxed credit form. With regard to Ricardo why not just e-mail and ask him.?

I'm sure Recardo would rather have cash(as in pesos, not dollars). He may not be set up to take cards and would have to pay a fee if he did.Just hit the ATM(rate around 2280/dollar) and pay him cash.Don't take dollars, don't take travelers checks. You get a poor exchange rate plus have to stand in line at the bank for 1/2 hour.I would suggest having several cards you can use, don't rely on only one.
Maybe an atm card plus a couple of credit cards. You will pay 2-4% to cash advance the credit cards, but they can be back up if you need them.Sometimes banks will see alot of foriegn activity and freeze the account. There was a call on my answering machine last time I went from a bank asking me about charges.I guess when they heard my outgoing message that I would be out of the country for 4 weeks they figured it out.

Pete E's post pretty well says it all. I would just add that if anyone offers you a price in dollars say sure and that you'll give them the peso equivalent at $2.000 to the dollar. Most will accept that and if you're getting your pesos from an ATM you're getting about $2.310 as of late. Makes for a nice dicount.

Title: ACG details???

I added the ACG agency to the list recently, but couldn't tell from their web site whether they accept credit cards or not.  Does anybody know?  That's the only detail I couldn't determine from their web site.

Thanks,  Patrick
