Title: Anyone Ever Ran A Business Down South ?
Post by: JunFan on December 02, 2001, 05:00:00 AM
It seems like in Colombia, if you have a little money you can make some money.  I am really not in any hurry to delve into a Colombian business venture, but I have been wondering if it is possible (and more importantly worth the headaches) to bankroll/start a business in Colombia.

Anyone ever tried it?  I was just thinking it might be nice if there was something that her family could do with a little help from Uncle Gringo.  But it seems like a daunting prospect...

I wouldn't recommend starting a business in Colombia unless you are someone who doesn't mind taking a risk or shot.  You will run into many problems unless you are living in Colombia or you have people you really trust to run your affairs when you are in the United States.  Money can be made in Colombia if you are willing to work hard and are connected with the Colombian people in the city you want the business. Also I feel it is important for you to travel to Colombia quite abit so you can make sure things are being run smoothly. So running a business in Colombia requires guts, money, time, a good idea(plan), people you can trust. Than maybe it can workout. Bottom line don't do it unless you have some money you can afford to loss if so then take your shot. Good luck.

that you bring that up Mike. The women in Stivalis's family can really burn (cook). Especially the sweet treats. I brought back some of momma's homemade dulce & manajar blanco. The Colombians & Dominicans went crazy over it. Folks started getting ugly & were bidding & asking me to bring some back, whenever I go to visit. I did a little checking around a few local barrio's & couldn't find anyone that could touch momma's treats. I told momma, if there was a way to get her treats up here, they would sell..NO DOUBT! Even with a delicious product, it would be too much of a  major undertaking, for me to deal with right now. Good luck, if you come across something.

Whaddaya think? Has a nice ring to it, huh?

You could...set up a small corporation, hire momma through the corporation(providing her with a guaranteed one year work contract-necessary for a work visa), bring momma over on a work visa, she starts cranking out the dulce, as an added bonus, Stivalis has less "culture shock" and "home sickness" cause momma's there, and BADA-BING!...in a couple years we all get to watch you doing interviews on Oprah, talkin 'bout how you grew Hoda's Treats into a multi-million dollar enterprise.

...ever heard of Mrs. Fields?

You're probably thinking, "Tai you are trippin"...but I bet for at least a moment or two...you were considering it, huh? ;)

Hoda,

You know...I REALLY must have been trippin', because I wasn't even thinking about how nasty it could get in there if the subject turned to how you and Stivalis met(and I'm sure it would). Well...if that happened, you'd just have to ask Oprah about her relationship with her long time giggolo..oops...I mean boyfriend, Stedman. LOL

You could hire both of you in-laws for the business: your mother in law could be in charge of preparing the product and your father in law could be in charge of quality control. Your father in law could even eat all of the profits . As long as you broke even monetarily, your profit would be that your wife is happy because her parents are nearby.

Seriously,  it does not have to be a big business dollar wise: as long as the business made enough profit or whatever to make the authorities happy.  The only drawback would be if you had some type of problem with her parents.

Hoda,

I was watching an interview, when Latin Life Mates sent me a FREE cd about their services, of a guy, who appeared on Oprah's Show!

The interview was about bringing foreign wives into america.  You should have seen all the negative questions and assumptions being made by nothing but american women!

Not surprisingly, not one single male said anything negative about this guys wife; not one!

During the interview the husband said that he didn't hate american women, he just didn't like the attitudes that most(98%) have about marriage; especially living together for years before getting serious about marriage, or even engagement!

The crowd bood him to death and he just shook his head in disappointment.  His wife, who could understand english quite well at this time, just looked at the crown in total amazement as to why and how american women think.

It was an amazing interview, but one that I hope woke every american women who was watching Oprah on that day.

As for me, I don't even look at american women any more man.  I don't care how pretty, how fine, or even as far as how nice they appear to be to me.

I won't give another american women a chance at me any more.  Period!  Neverrrrrrr......

Now, send me the rest of those 'trip reports'!(smiling)

later,

hilton

This kind of reminds me of the last woman that I dated. Actually we were engaged. She fits into that AW attitude. It seemed to me you could never do enough for her. She couldn't manage her money and that in itself caused a lot of problems even though I paid 90% of the bills. It's kind of funny (if it wasn't so sad) how old fashioned she always said she was. This relationship took a lot out of me. I knew it was over months before it happened. There were a lot of other things going on to. I looked back at all the women that I have dated and realized they just weren't what I was looking for. I was fooling myself. I started doing research on Latin women before she moved out. I figure by next spring I will be in Cali for a visit.  Thinking about the post on that oprah episode makes me remember something she said before we broke up.  (You will probaly wind up with some white girl or other race.)  It's sad to say but I expected such a comment from the AW of today.  I just smiled and said you may be right.  I need a good WOMAN, not some brat who throws a tantrum or pouts when you don't just settle for her materialistic and selfish ways. If there are good women in Cali and I find one to love, I feel I deserve that blessing.

Yall hang in there, and keep searching.  I Will

By the way she kept the ring and I consider that a life lesson worth paying for.

answer or ask any questions of the crowd yelling "hatin" at her? Not a single woman wished them well, for finding & being found by love in their lives? Did any of the guys in the audience ask any questions? Did he use an agency or freelance? Sorry for the grilling bro, but I don't bother with Oprah or the Oxygen channel at all. I'm just asking out of curiousity...tnx

Hoda,

The interview never went far enough for any kind of detailed conversation that the husband and wife  may or may not have had with Oprah and the crowd.

Hilton,
So, how do you really feel about AW?? LOL

Remember, that while Latinas are very different in many ways than their American counterparts, they are still women.  There are probably more things they have in common than they do differences, in my opinion.

Title: It's time for a break..

Mike,

I like this board.  You know why?  Because it gives me 'break excuses'.  Seriously, when I need a break from my work I come to this board.

Now, Mike, I don't hate american women; even though it may read like I do.  But, really, I have been burned by alot of american women because of either money, having nice cars, or a huge home.  In any case, I have tried looking for a 'nice' girl in church; that didn't work because she wound up telling me that 'money is the root to all evil'.  I wound up telling her that not having enough causes more even than having too much!

I tried the YMCA.  No luck.  All the women at the gym tend to be looking for the buff vampire, in addition to making men think that they are just working out.  Next thing I know, I see a girl that I want to talk to and she's outside smoking a cigarette!  Thanks but no thanks...

I tried having some of my friends hook me up with a 'wonerful nice' women.  Didn't work.  Know why?  Because the my friends got my personality mixed up with what they thought I should have had.  Thanks, but no thanks, I understand myself better than anyone on this earth.

And, lastly, I tried the dating service in my town(Joplin, Missouri).  That didn't work; even though every single member had to pay $1,200 to join.  Know why it didn't work for me?  Because when I started asking 'traditional' important moral questions about life and how it will affect her and I for the future, she thought that I was some freak and wanted to be 'more romantic' instead of more realistic; and this was after 5 or more dates bro!

So, you see, american women just don't do it for me man.  I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired.  Know what I mean man?  I have tried all the right ways, and even some of the wrong ways.  And, in all cases, I have failed, and have failed with great success!  It's not me, but the way that american women are raised today.

I truly believe that GOD placed the man to be the head of the family.  Once you break the equilibrium to what God, himself, has set up, you also break the equilibrium of a true relationship with a women; not to mention the fact that conflict occurs.

Even at 30, I'm the traditional thinking type.  I just happen to use present technology to my advantage to leverge my traditional thinking.

Peace brother,

Hilton

Thanks again...Hoda
