No. I'm kicking around a lot of ideas about where to live for a while, including some of the southern cities. I stopped by a travel agency last night and they quoted me 77,000 pesetas+tax (about $400) Valencia to Madrid to São Paolo, so the cost of getting there is pretty reasonable.

exit/entry fees are added to the ticket tax,
add another $95 to the ticket price

I'm looking forward to hearing how Brazil works out for you.  I wonder if there is anyone else around that will have gone the correspondence/Brazil route and the agency/Cali route?

much more difficult in almost all respects

1) no agencies, cali-style at least
2) some marriage/dating services are limited to Brazilians only
3) a lot of women, regardless of their economic level, do not want to leave
4) they say the men are bad, but most say they'd rather have a foreign guy move to brazil to be with them
5) beach/tourist areas have soft core semi pros, who would love to be married to foreign guys, best to avoid them
6) north of rio and sao paulo, very little english is spoken

personal point of view
7) its hard to just show up in town and start looking for a wife, will need some preliminary contact, as well as on the ground help

8) if a woman is uneducated, living away from home, sharing a small apartment with 3 or 4 other women, sending money home to support a child, has no visible means of employment, i'd pass on her, as she is probably "on the program"

(9)  gems exist in both places, just have to take your time to mine them, probably a lot of "fools gold" in both places also

Title: Going to Brazil?...Learn some Portugese

Fluency isn't require, you probaly can get by with some spanish. But just like in spanish speaking S.A. If you can speak/understand some of the language, it'll open some more doors for you. Many of the ladies will appreciate the attempt...especially in Brazil. From what my buddies have told me. The reports from Rio, Salvador & Recife, tell me, that the people are very diverse in their appearance & in their attitudes. Do some homework. NO! DO ALOT OF HOMEWORK. Brazil is very different from the rest of S.A. I believe the correspondence route is the best way to go, if your Portugese is weak or non-existent. You can free lance down...LAWD, can you freelance down there...LOL!!  BTW, the cost of going down there has dropped dramatically.

Good Luck....
