Title: Afghan shot in Cali Post by: Kenfer8 on November 28, 2001, 05:00:00 AM I read this article today in El Pais (Cali's largest newspaper)
www.elpais-cali.terra.com.co/HOY/periodico/JUD/B628N2.html The Afghan has been married to a Caleņa for 7 years. The couple visited a money-exchange place and then went home. A robber broke into their house and demanded the money. Of course the Afghan man resisted and then was shot 2 times in the head. He's expected to survive though. Maybe I'm reading to much into this post. I'm trying to figure out the motivation of the writer. "Afghan shot in Cali." What's the deal-e-o here? To warn us that Cali is a bad place to go, dangerous, not for gringos? It's like posting "Swede shot in Boise" What's the point? Cali is a big City, not unlike all big city's there is crime. Watch yourself when you go to any big city. My question to the writer is.....Was your post written because you wanted to advise us of current events, or do you have another agenda? Title: Re: Re: Afghan shot in Cali Post by: Kenfer8 on November 28, 2001, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to Re: Afghan shot in Cali, posted by Craig on Nov 28, 2001
No hidden agenda here. I just found it interesting due to the current events in the world and that 8 or 9 out of 10 posts on this board have to do with Cali. And, besides, a lot of guys on the board ask questions about Colombia's safety, etc; others post messages dealing with bombs exploding in Cali and kidnappings. Title: Here we go again.... Kenfer, That are far more bombings and kidnappings in the two larger Colombian cities than Cali. I do believe, one of them is your "home" town. Please get a grip with the exagerations, 9 out of 10 post here, aren't about Cali. You're starting on this "Hate" of Cali all over again. You still haven't answered a single question in regards to what you considered "better suited marriage material" or why you feel that Cali women who join agencies are less than desirable. You still haven't posted ANYTHING of any real substance. You're a Colombian man!!!! SO WHAT? WE'RE NOT HERE FOR COLOMBIAN/BRAZILIAN OR ANY MEN FROM S.A....LOL SMACK!! SMACK!! Welcome back to the real world... Title: Hey Hoda! Post by: HappyIdiot on November 29, 2001, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to Here we go again...., posted by Hoda on Nov 28, 2001
I think the disection of what posts are for what is another pointless exercise on divisiveness. No value is gained by deciding X number of posts were about topic A, and completely overlooks the obvious fact that quality is ignored by this meaningless metric. Any results on the investigation of the eBusiness? Who would have had means, motive, and opportunity? Well, some people just have trouble with sticking to a topic, they seem to jump from subject to subject and nothing ever seems to get answered. It's as if they are trying to destroy focus, wow, which would be like disruption. Who knows what the Colombian male's perspective based on this one "example"? If we can even determine what if anything is really being said. Nelson from LAI seems to have been posting and I hope he reads this board. From his posts, I'd imagine he would have some good insights, and the maturity to express them without rudeness. Title: Re: who are you... Out here (Las Vegas), we've got free lunch, free rooms, free dinner, free shows. Everyone's a winner! You New Yorkers, you just expect that people will not dig, shift, and move on and on and on. How can you expect people to be responsible for what they say?! This thing about going from apologetic to assaultive, has nothing to do with being completely insincere. Nobody would ever need to say that. Sorry to dog you out Hoda, but you know we need to be careful that if people think and come to the same conclusions that we remain not a group or gang up on people unfairly by doing stuff like asking them what they mean.

You are so right about that world thing. It's what the world's coming to. God forbid that we would actually have to take responsibility for what we say and thinking and stuff. That's um, unfair or something. You know hard and stuff. Hey why are you hating on me about my girl being from Brazil! You know this is a pro Cali board because someone said it and now the heat will be on me. It doesn't matter that I have been posting for months thinking that people were interested talking about Latinas. That would be like, the stated purpose of this forum or something. You got me on the run now! I do have to answer some awkward questions about my town. I was talking to J the other day, and she said, I saw your city on television. (UH OH!) There was a man, with a big piece of wood and he mixed many kinds of food on a table then smashed the wood on the table and this disgusting food went out onto the audience. (I guessed correctly that the was Galliger(sp?) the comedian and his "sledge-o-matic") ... and the moral of the story.... I would not want to have a dress ruined by going to this kind of show. So, based on my international experience, I would highly recommend that you warn your girl before taking her to see Galliger. As usual, happy to help with meaningful personal insights! Not sure yet where we will get together, but all the jacking around about visas is gettting to be too much stress for both of us. Unfortunately the agent that was supposed to be be the expert and be able to handle everything dropped the ball in a big way after about 2 months. So J will be flying to Brasilia next week to take care of everything. I asked if she wanted to, to check into getting a Mexican tourist visa, then we'd have more options depending on outcome. So, I'm not sure, Here in the US is #1 choice, but the other options are Brazil or maybe Mexico. Cozamel Island is a nice, romantic place. I've stayed at El Presidente a couple times, and would definately choose that place again. The nice thing is we *should* know in time to make plans. It is definately wearing the number of weeks that go by where you should know "next week". Mike, Lets see, bullets made in Colombia?Head protector under his turban?Hollow between the ears?(Bin Laden Family tree)Ricoshayed off the grease? Seriously it does happen.A bullet that hits any part of the brain will cause damage, not always fatal.Remember Jim Brady,Reagans aide who got shot in the head by a bullet meant for Reagan? He has severe brain damage but is still alive. They wheel him out every time there is a gun control bill up.Hopefully this guy will not only live but not be a vegetable. I think Colombian medicine is a 2 sided thing. On the one hand they have some world class doctors, but the care most people get and the condition of the hospitals is substandard I am told. Also,I am told a hit cost about $200 in Colombia,so don't p--s anyone off. Oh,and I agree, lets lighten up. Mike, What bad experience have you had or heard about regarding health care in Colombia? I've not had any direct experience but I know my fiance gets homeopathic and naturopathic treatments that are covered by the very inexpensive health insurance she has. Here in the US I have to pay 100% for any health practitioner that isn't a licensed MD. I'm not at all a fan of western medicine for anything but handling of acute crises (e.g. heart attacks, broken limbs.) Also, I don't have any evidence that Colombian hospitals handle gunshot wounds any worse than US hospitals do. Do you? I'd not hold the US as an example of great health care. In case of a serious illness you may want to get treated in Colombia. There are excellent doctors experienced treating people who are already sick. Preventative medicine in Colombia is not as widespread as in the U.S. Doctors in the U.S. have more experience in preventative medicine. In case of a serious accident, when time is of the essence, you have a better chance of survival in the U.S. Everything from the ambulances, paramedics and trauma centers in the hospitals is much better than in Colombia. An American friend of mine living there broke both bones in his in his forearm in a fall recently and told me he received excellent medical attention. I also sat next to an American on the plane on my last visit who was on his way down to Cali to get a bunch of dental work done. I have never been in a hospital in Colombia, nor do I ever care to go. And I've never been to Cali. Sure, my wife has told me that the public hospitals are terrible, so you have to pay for the private ones, and blah blah blah. oh, by the way, there's just a little bit of difference between a broken arm and a double-head wound, don't you think?
