Title: Colombia
Post by: MIKE on October 30, 2001, 05:00:00 AM
I still think the guys going down to Colombia are crazy. It's dangerous as hell, most the women in Cale speak no English. Once you find one,  what if she wants to work in the U.S., she can't find a job if she can't speak english?  and this is coming from an almost fluent Spanish speaker. It seems like most of the guys going down there are looking at mostly just physical appearence and if you can't speak the language how are you supposed to have a relationship with them. That is why I think alot of these marriages fail. Its like meeting girls here, you have to communicate with them to find out which one is right or wrong for you and with a translator it make it even harder to see threw all the B.S. sOME GUYS GET THE LUCK OF THE DRAW AND HAVE VERY HAPPY MARRIAGES, im not saying it doesn't happen but others get screwed. All im saying is Costa Rica the women might be more stuck up slightly and more fussy about the guys, but can you blame them if they are going to spend the rest of their life with you, that means they are being honest with you and really do want a relationship with you and not just a green card, and most ticas are pretty honest people and don't take advantage of you that bad, at least the normal girls and most of all Costa Rica is safe and many of the girls speak English.

English is a second  language down here.  If you don't know what the first language is, I'll give you three guesses and the first four don't count...

Sorry for the sarcasm, but it does seem like english is a second language in Miami / Dade county.

Mike,

Hi. I have been to both places. I went to Costa Rica last year, and Cali the year before then.

You may like Costa Rica better than Colombia. That's fine. You're entitled to that. However, I like Colombia, even with its domestic problems, better than Costa Rica. I think Colombia is much more fun than Costa Rica. Colombian people are much more open and friendly than many Costa Ricans. Another thing is that in Colombia there has been much more mixing between races than in Costa Rica. Costa Rica is predominately a mixture of Spanish and whites, with some blacks that immigrated there to work on the banana plantations in the early 1900's. Another thing that I noticed about Costa Rica, and don't get me wrong because I think that it is a wonderful country with nice people, but San Jose and the rest of the country is becoming very Americanized. I didn't like that. Another thing about Colombia, especially Cali, that I love is the music. There is so much diversity in the music on the Pacific and Atlantic Coast, and mixtures between people that it is almost surreal.

Mike, you can't judge us just because we go to Colombia, and you like Costa Rica instead. You go where you want to go, we go where we want to go.

However, I will give two plugs for Costa Rica right now:

1.) It's a great place for honeymooning.
2.) It has about 40,000 Americans living there. So it can be a nice place to relocate if one would like to move to Latin America.

Just my .02
Aaron

ok I think Pete is right about Bogota , the girls do speak more english there and there are alot of professional dentists, engineers etc there. I have checked it out. What I am looking for is a swf 22-28 who speaks enough english to get by in the work place and has a potential to make 30-50k up here. A dentist can technically work as a dental assistant up here make $13-$15 an hour and my best friend is a dentist and said if I bring one up here he will hire her.. I do see some potential in Bogota for what im looking for but very little of what im looking for in Calle. Im sorry for knocking Colombia i guess it depends where you go and what your looking for. Anybody know of any good tours in Bogota? Im willing to give Colombia a chance maybe but I did luck out big time when a 26 year old systems analyst from a little town in Mexico just south of Houston emailed me and sent me her pic. She is drop dead gorgeous and it would be real cheap for me to fly down there. We have been writing back and fourth, and Ive been calling her to. She seems really awesome, speaks good english and just as sweet and nice as the Colombian girls I think, and she can definitely make alot of money up here. It is just im 26 years old, I work as a sales rep for a publishing company, I make about 50-60k and just starting to get established and it would be nice to have a double income if i became married. Im sure most of you guys are looking for different things in women then I am.

Mike,

You say: "What I am looking for is a swf 22-28 who speaks enough english to get by in the work place and has a potential to make 30-50k up here."

Last time I checked swf was: Single White Female.

Why are you going on and on about Costa Rica versus Colombia, if you are looking for a Young White English-Speaking, Well-Educated, Professional Woman?

There are millions of them living and working right here in the good ole USA, ranging from "drop dead gorgeous" to "not so good looking, but very nice"....and from petite to large sizes.

If in fact you are a 26 year old, good-looking guy, making 50-60K, then you should ALREADY have your pick here in the states...or at least a very large pool to choose from.

Unless....

What you are really looking for is a young gorgeous educated professional white woman, bringing an additional 30-50K into your household....with a traditional value set that may allow you more control over her(and the money she makes) than our home grown variety would.

just .02

He's just picking at some past grudge that he's carrying around.  I think the list of past grievances was triggered when the anti femminist thread got deleted.  You'll see that Raptor has had a specific pattern of not being able to let past threads go, and will wait for his moment to jump on someone that made a point that he didn't agree with that he wasn't able to address with reason.

Anyway, hopefully everyone will be able to agree that racism is not limited to any specific color of people.  Then maybe there won't be anymore ignorant statements like whatever this insinuation of it's ok to be something based upon your race.

And perhaps people will learn to save the racism charges for the people who truly are racist.

Or risk losing the impact of the charge.

SWM,

Last time you checked "the country called Colombia was established by people of Spanish origin of the caucasian race"?

Well thank you very much for the historical clarification, Mr. Britannica

Now...to the matter at hand....

If you had taken the time to read my post...nowhere in it does it say that there are no white women in Colombia.

Second, whether he is looking for a green, blue, or purple latina...who said it needed to be OK with me or anyone else?

Third, if you had been following the thread...the guy apparently wants an educated white woman that can slide ride into life here with little interruption to his present life, and begin bringing in the bucks.

Now, given his stated preferences....it would be far less disturbing to his current lifestyle to simply look here in the states...where the educated professional white women tend to already speak English and make good money.

Get it?

Tai

If you like the Mexican lady, why don't you go meet her?  It sounds almost like you're waiting for the best qualified professional cantidate and plan to marry whoever best fits your model.

Doesn't work like that young man.  It's one thing to screen ladies for their money earning pontential, but if you want a good marriage as well as a good financial future, you need to find love as well.  For that, you may have to have to meet quite a few.  Don't wait for the "best cantidate" with the thought that she's going to be "the one".

The hardest part of this whole thing is finding someone that you love and who also loves you.  You can't determine that until you meet and get to know each other well. Vete al sur para conocer a la mujere mexicana.

Mike,

I would like to point out some things for you. I'm saying these things so you can be realistic with this kind of thing.

1.) If you have 50K to 60K in your favor right now, that is good for a 26 year old. Most Americans don't make that much.

2.) Don't expect the "world" too soon when she gets here. Yes, we all would like for our wives to be bringing in nice money once she arrives, but that's not realistic. If you have a friend that will hook her up with a job making $15 an hour go for it. As far as her practicing denistry, she will have to go back to school and take further tests to become certified. That will be substantial up front costs. One thing you may want to consider, and I hope other guys are reading, is to get her enrolled in school. Like a good community college or junior college. That would be cheap. She could finish the first two years there cheap, then work on the last two to three years at a university. I know many Latinas from my univeristy that do this. In fact, they are smart about it because they study to become Spanish teachers for public schools. Since they already know the language, they breeze through the program. Many of them find good jobs making between 30K to 40K.

3.) As for the language barrier. Make it up in your mind right now that learning the language will be an asset. Also, if you ever do get married, because many guys don't, you should realize that your wife will begin to pick up English quickly once she arrives. That is if she really tries to learn the language, and you don't hide her in a closet. Another thing is this, there are many Calenas that speak English.

Also, the predominate reasons why guys prefer cetain cities in Colombia can be many. But these two are the major ones:

1.) Cultural and social practicies of the girls in particular cities.
2.) Physical characteristics of girls in particular cities.

For example, in Bogota the people are more reserved, and somewhat formal at times. But on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts people are more outgoing and relaxed. Not to mention there are more people of African decent, and a mixture thereof, in the coastal cities.

I prefer Cali because the ladies there are very attractive and polished, yet relaxed and friendly. They also have allot of charm. Also, Cali has allot of diversity and mixing between groups.

That's all I have to say about this.
Aaron

No professional from Latin America is going to hit the ground running here.  I have a friend who married a doctor from Venezuela.  After 4 years of intense study (and a fair chunk of money), she has finally passed the board and started a residency.  She had to apply nation-wide for a residency.  San Diego's pretty tough for getting one without really good credentials.  She found one in Texas, where they now live.  He left his business here and is flying back and forth all the time now while she puts in 36 hour shifts.  If you want to marry a professional, make sure you know what could be in store for you and be ready to deal with it.

Costa Rica has great surf.

I tried to get a flight to Costa Rica with an extended layover in Cali.  I thought it would be a great trip to combine Cali with some surf in Costa Rica.  Wrong....the flights just don't work that way and it was twice as expensive.  Oh well.

This is off subject, but I think the women in Colombia are much better looking then Russian women.

From LAX I was getting round trip prices  to Cali for 448.00 out of Ticatravel.com.  Anybody have any better suggestions for air.  I'm going to just go down and see what happens.

I suppose for someone who's never been to the city, the name's a bit hard to spell.  You can be successful in your search anywhere.  The important thing is not where you go, but what you bring with you.  Specifically, the grey matter inside your skull. Fools can fail anywhere, guys with a little wisdom and good judgement can succeed anywhere.

I would suggest not settling for the luck of the draw, but to instead make your own luck by stacking the odds in your favor as much as possible-

Study Spanish
Think with the big head
Take your time
