Title: Cali experience Post by: Thomas on October 01, 2001, 04:00:00 AM Man watch out for snakes! I just came back from my first trip to Cali and had a great time but the trip back was terrible. After I had gone thru all the immigration and was going thru the last security checkpoint I was detained.
I look spanish and when the guy spoke to me in spanish and I responded in English. His eyebrow cocked up and he says come with me. So he starts asking me " you have Coca?" and I know very well he just wants $$$. So he takes me out of the terminal and into an office where they ask me some fake questions. Im like "look guy i have to catch my plane." So finally I say "How much?" and he says "el bano" So we go the bathroom and he says "$100 bucks" and Im like I dont care if I miss my plane Im not giving this peice of you know what a $100 dollars. So I said "Ive got $20 bucks and thats all Ive got" Anyway the peice of garbage takes that and brings me back thru immigration where the other human waste who already looked at my passport and know its legitimate are all smirking and smiling. In any normal situation I wouldnt have given him a dime but he had me over a barrel on this one. I had to catch my flight and I didnt know enough spanish to tell anyone what was going on not that they would have listened anyway. The worst part is after i paid the guy he was trying to make conversation and be friendly with me like he was doing me a big favor by letting me go. I had an incredible trip and met a wondeful girl but this really made me mad. I have to say this. I am a minority who has experienced rascism but this is coming from what I MYSELF experienced in Cali. I didnt talk to many men while I was there but just about every guy I met was either a real obvious lowlife or was a fake nice guy trying to find a way to seperate me from my money. Almost every girl I met was sweet and had a horror story about some guy mistreating them or there mother. My girlfriends dad is a real peice of work and her ex-boyfriend (who otherwise seemed decent) cheated on her and expected her to accept it. In summary although some girls want to leave the country for a more prosperous life alot that I met just want a decent guy because from the ones I came accross thery seem pretty hard to find down there. Thomas, A little advice, be careful in believing all the stories from these girls about rotten fathers and ex-boyfriends. Take your time and you will find out if she is real or giving you a line. I've seen too may chica's give fake lines to gringo's. The gringo's fall for the lines and want to become prince charming and save them. This is my 2 cents. Good luck. My sentiments exactly H2-OH. My own opinion is that too often guys believe everything the women say because they say it with such a sweet voice and such a pretty smile. But the reality in my opinion is that most gringos don't really know the women they are dating in their day to day lives. They go to the agency, play 50 questions and when a pretty girl responds in the obvious she's now an angel. The attention from a beautiful younger woman can be quite intoxicating and it's often times here that men begin to throw their otherwise good sense out the proverbial window and begin replacing it with something that is more fantasy than reality. My God, how much can you really know about a person in a week. Remember everyone is on their absolute best behavior both at the agency and out on dates. I think a lot of guys want to believe their new sweeties are everything they've imagined them to be. I've seen to many gringos believe the good-bad black-white notion of men and women in Latin America. It's overly simplistic in my opinion but it may fit in well with the male psychy that wants to believe he's Prince Charming saving the women from evil Colombian men. There are truly great women in Colombia, I've met many. But in almost all cases it took time for me to weed out the sincere women from the less than sincere. In my opinion, it's not always that easy to spot unless you have time to test the waters. hey lucifer Great post, take these boys to school. Women are women they just look better to us in Cali because we don't always understand them. Come to think about it maybe it is better that we don't. this is about the 5th or 6th time i have heard a story like this and it seems to be increasing as time goes on. i personally have never had such a problem in cali, i have always been treated very good by both the women and men of cali. your story will make me more aware next time. |
