Title: Tourist Visa's For Family Members (Columbia) Post by: DFWGuy on August 18, 2001, 04:00:00 AM Does anyone have any experience with family members from Columbia getting a tourist visa to visit here? From everything I have been reading it looks pretty difficult even if you sign a letter saying you will pay for their tickets and living expenses while they are here. Any help would be appreciated.

I heard through various sources that the US Embassy in Bogota Colombia, is no longer issuing tourist visa's to Colombian's. Reason given is that President Bush is planning to give Colombian nationals who are here in this country illegally the opportunity to become permanent residents. If you are from Canada it is just about impossible no matter what you sign or how much you say you will support them. Only exception would be if they had substancial real estate or money in Colombia. The government feels that they will not return to there country. Tried to get a girl a visitor visa,she was even going to leave her child in Colombia while she was visiting me. The embassy rejected her request apparently they felt that she might not return to her child and instead stay in Canada. I can think of a lot worse things to happen to the country than having an excess of beautiful colombian woman running around.LOL Been there done that and had no success. Clint |
