Title: trip report pt. 1 Post by: pack on August 14, 2001, 04:00:00 AM i have been to cali before several times , last time i was there was august of last year. each time i had been to cali i enjoyed myself but i had also had some bad experiences there in fact up until just a month before i traveled i was concidering brazil as an option still having negative thoughts about cali and my past experiences. well after staying tuned to this board and speaking with friends i decided i was gonna give it one more try and return to cali. i was very excited about the trip i only got about 3 hours sleep the night before i left. it seems the trip was doomed from the beginning it started when i was standing out in front of my home with my suitcases at 3:00 in the morning waiting for supershuttle i could see the shuttle driving back and forth on one stret over , they were lost, finally they found me and we were off to the airport. the plane left on time and as i enjoyed my yogurt and frozen bannana complements of american airlines i began a conversation with a newlywed couple across the isle from me they were on their way to florida for a honeymoon he looked happy she looked bored, the whole trip she whinned and complained about this and that she had this guy jumping through hoops to make her happy, i remember thinking this is exactly why im going south. got to dallas airport and more bad news the plane is delayed two hours...great! then to top it off they tell us last minute to switch gates so everyones off and running, finally we leave. captain comes on and says we are going to be late many of you will miss your connecting flight so when we land go to the courteousy desk and they will find you another flight . great!!! i think to myself im not going to any desk for another flight!! forget that!!! as sonn as the door opens im off and running through the airport dodging people kinda like a o. j. commercial. as i approch the counter no one around all passagers have boarded i see one AA person standing there i asked have they departed? he says no but they are closing the door now. i take off in a sprint down the ramp and they let me in just before closing..whew!! im goin to cali ...in goin to cali !!! plane backs out ....and then sits on the tarp for an hour and 10 minutes...typical!!! arive in cali just about 45 minutes behind schedule. latin internets regular driver picks me up and we're off to jardin. upon arriving im greeted by betty and sammy two very nice people im shown my room and right away i didnt like it , it was outside the actual building with no bath , no a/c i just didnt like it so they put me in a room up stairs.the driver wanted 35000 pesos for the drive i paid him but recalled anytime in the past taxi was 20000 from the airport...oh well i was too tired to complain. i went to bed...tomorrow my adventure begins.

In my recent trips over the last six months or so, I paid anywhere from 23000 to 30000 pesos for the ride back and forth. Title: just curious Post by: thomas on August 14, 2001, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to trip report pt. 1, posted by pack on Aug 14, 2001
Ive got to know man. What the hell do you do for a living that allows you to travel to Cali multiple times before the age of 23? I work in Information Systems and Ive got to wait all year just to get a lousy 2 weeks off. Thats probaly been the biggest obstacle in all of this. Thanks Title: Re: just curious Post by: pack on August 14, 2001, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to just curious, posted by thomas on Aug 14, 2001

Sorry Pack for everybody jumping on you to hear your story including myself--But...I also want to know why you were given the run around--No offense, but was it your age? I am interested on this because I am 54 and if I am going to be given the run around, then well, might as well stay here. regards Jes Title: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: just curious Post by: pack on August 15, 2001, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to Re: Re: Re: Re: just curious, posted by Jes on Aug 15, 2001
hi jes, no i dont think age was a factor most of the women i met didnt seem to mind. i guess im just feeling a little down i spent 18 days in cali and feel as though half of it was a waste of time and money. dont get me wrong there were some good times but way to many negative events. i'll explain later. Hi Jes, Letting you know. I spent 10 days in Cali in June/July this year. I didn't get any run around from the women I met. I stayed at Latin Best and every woman showed up on time or only a few minutes late. I had meetings with over 18 women. Those that weren't interested in me said so at the end of our conversation. Very direct and matter of fact. I am 52 (53 in Nov)and always asked the woman I was talking with if age was a factor. Most said no. Those that said yes wanted to have children and I would have been willing but didn't paricularly want to start a family at my age. I only talked with women from 30 to 40+, maybe that was why. The final result was Maria. A 31 yo woman with a delightful 9yo boy. The doctor says she shouldn't have another child. So for me an ideal situation. BTW I am returnig to Cali in Sept to see if this relationship will continue to progress positivly, so far it is going very well. Some insight that you gained might help someone else, so I hope that even if you don't want to document your entire trip, you'll add a post here and there about it where it might help. People are curious, myself included. Title: Hey Pack, we expect to hear the rest of the story........... Don't punk out on us. We want to hear trip reports whether they have happy endings or not. Just throw in a new paragraph every so often to reduce eye strain. Thanks. You said it yourself, this was the Latin Internet driver, not a taxi. I don't think it is unreasonable to pay a few dollars more for your own private driver, one who arrives and WAITS specificly for you. I typically pay a taxi 20,000 to 25,000 from the airport to my apartment off Avenida Sexta. Latin Internet is 20 minutes or so further than my apartment so all in all for the extra $6.00 I think you got a pretty good deal. o k , i'll take your word for it. i was just going by what i had paid in the past trips to cali...i never paid over 20000 peso , i just thought 35000 was a little out there. Hi devil I just wanted to concur. My last cab ride from the airport to my apartment three blocks away from Latin Internet was thirty five thousand pesos. twenty to AVE 6 is a bargain. I didn't say anything because I didn't want to be called a nit picker and often such inconsistancies give me an evaluation of the writer. jim c Title: Re: Re: Re: trip report pt. 1 Post by: pack on August 14, 2001, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to Re: Re: trip report pt. 1, posted by jim c on Aug 14, 2001
