Title: More info on the support group for hispanic women Post by: Hispana-N-US on June 27, 2001, 04:00:00 AM Hi there,
I'm sorry about the confusion my first message may have created among you. Listen guys, I have the best intentions with this group. My name is Gabriela and I, myself, am a hispanic woman, from Mexico, married to an american guy and living in US. Why did I create this group? Well, simply because I wanted to make friends and get in touch with other hispanic women and their families, but unfortunately I have had some bad experiences with similar woman-only groups in the past. Why allow the men (men involved with the latin women of course) in this list? Well, as I told my husband, that would give them the opportunity to share their experience and learn from one another since it's not only the women who are in this boat, right? My experience when I was in one of those lists I told you about was that my husband often felt left out and the other women sometimes didn't advice you thinking of the best for you AND your family. Some may even be a little too radical and tell you to do things that could hurt your marriage or damage your relationship with your husband. I thought maybe a list that allowed the men to participate or at least know what's going on would be better. I'm sorry if you think this is dorky or you feel insulted or threatened in any way. I just didn't want to make my name or email address public in a forum like this one, only to keep my privacy, but you can email me at any time to this email address, should you have any comments or questions: gabitapavita@hotmail.com Please, keep in mind that I never meant anything bad by posting that message here. Thanks and sorry, Title: Una pregunta Post by: Patrick on June 27, 2001, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to More info on the support group for hispa..., posted by Hispana-N-US on Jun 27, 2001

Well, to be very honest, I've noticed something similar to what your friends tell you. Here in US, I haven't met a single american woman that smokes, not one, but while I was still in Mexico, many of my women friends used to smoke quite a lot and so did their mother and even teenage sisters. It's as if it was "in" or something. I don't know if this could apply to all social levels, but I'm talking about college students from one of the most expensive and prestigious institution in Mexico city and/or young engineers and graduates working for transnationals like P&G, IBM and so on. I never liked smoking, perhaps because my father used to be very clear about it or the facts that both my parents never smoked and that cancer runs in the family. I also met women that didn't smoke, perhaps it's just a matter of luck? Perhaps I've just not been meeting the upper crust types who apparently smoke more than the lower classes. Or maybe many of the ladies I have known do smoke, but only occasionally and they consider themselves to be non-smokers. Escribes ingles mejor que casi todos los gringos aqui. Lo has aprendido muy bien. Patrick Title: Gracias! Post by: Hispana-N-US on June 29, 2001, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to Thanks Gabi, posted by Patrick on Jun 28, 2001
Es el mejor cumplido que me han hecho desde que llegue a este pais. Creo que valio la pena haberlo estudiado por tanto tiempo, pero, creeme, lo escribo mejor de lo que lo hablo.
