Title: cooking Post by: Ron on May 21, 2001, 04:00:00 AM On a different subject,..........in what city in Colombia do the mothers teach their daughters how to cook ?? The two I met in Bogota were the worst at it. Rice, beans, chicken !.......that`s it ! every night, too. Sorry,....sometimes she`d leave out the chicken, to be different. One in Peru didn`t even know what a frying pan was. I know I can`t be the only one with this complait (smile), but where do you find the ones that can even cook alittle, instead of going out all the time. Now, I don`t know if anyone can make the same claims as me,......but I never had a Latin Women cook a meal for me when I went to visit them,.....it was always going out to eat. Go ahead Houndog, and Bret. Shoot me again !!!! But it`s the truth. Do these Latin Women have something against cooking, too ??? I can pick them, can`t I, Houndog ???? (smile)

Ron, There is a wide variety of cooking skill with the Colombian women, much more so than here, because there are alot of them who were never taught or allowed to cook. One well known example is the upper class girl who never learned to cook because someone,a servant, always did it for them. They also didn't have to clean for the same reason.I have heard stories, particularly with the cleaning,of I don't clean, hire a maid.Problem is maids and housecleaners here make alot of money, more than your Colombiana is likely to earn if she can get a job.How they handle not cooking I don't know.Maybe they want to eat out alot. On the other end of the spectrum is the girl raised by relatives who is considered the cleaning woman and is not allowed to cook, thats one level above her status. Fortunately there are alot of middle class women who were taught to cook by their mothers, similar to here. They can be quite creative in making a meal out of alot of different foods, whatever is available. They can do wonders with simple items. Fortunately I am married to the latter type of woman. She is very happy, however that I allowed ger to hire a housecleaner.I always had one before because I wasn't going to do it,so this seemed fair. She did a very good job when she cleaned but really didn't like doing it.It seemed the job sort of expanded and she would spend all day on it.Now we have three cleaning ladies who breeze through here in about 30 miniutes. One more comment.Colombia seems to have a pay a nd status system that starts with menial workers on the bottom, skilled workers next, then office and clerical workers, then professionals.Plumbers don't make more than bank managers there. There is an adjustment in thinking required by this because labor is so expensive here.My wife was appaled when a lady charger her $20 to take in her dress."TWENTY DOLLARS SEW MY DRESS??!!"That about 2 days pay in Colombia. Pete,.......a real thanks for all the information you gave me,.....not only on the cooking part,.....but how women are in different sections, and how they are brought up etc. Everyone should be copy down what you told us. I didn`t know it was like that, there. Do you have any idea in what level the girls come from, when they go to these agencies seeking a mate ?? Do the poorer, middle class, or even high class go to these more ?? Would a certain agency just have (say) middle class, while another might have high class etc. ??? That information on "education-job", you gave was great !!!!!! Thanks again !!!! Ron Title: Houndog & Pete E. Invite me to dinner! I WANT MY RICE AND BEANS NOW!!! Hey y'all bachelors: Surely your fiance's cooking cannot be worst than any bachelor's cooking on this board. Larry in Big "D" Title: Go, Big D, Go!!!!! Post by: Hoda on May 22, 2001, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to Houndog & Pete E. Invite me to dinn..., posted by Larry in Dallas on May 22, 2001
You'd think, that the way some guys post, that their culinary skills rival Julia Childs or the other T.V. chefs! Once you focus in on "ONE" particular lady, she'll know it. She'll offer to cook for you at her home.... ONCE YOU'VE EARNED THE PRIVILEDGE!!!! For you newbies going south, don't expect home cooking too soon. As an example, how many of you, got invited to a ladies home after the first date, and received a home cooked meal? I hear ya Big D, about bachelor cooking. How many times have you smoked out your kitchen?...ROTFLMAO!!!! Peace...Hoda Title: Re: Houndog & Pete E. Invite me to dinner! Well Larry, I don't know about rice & beans...my lady likes to cook baked fish with an assortment of veggies, cooked just right. And when she saw the barbque grill in the back yard, her eyes lit up. And your more than welcome to visit and bring Niyadan...LE's house will be spotless....she cleans "Her House" with a smile. I did have to show her how to use the vacum cleaner(carpeted houses are unusual in LA)...and yes I change the bags, for her :-). I feel sorry for the guys that have to play Mr. Mom...just to have a girl. However maybe these guys are afraid to define roles. I explained to my girl that Team Work was the road to a long happy relationship with me, and she agreed. Regards, Houndog

You can get a vacum that doesn't use bags, a lot of them have HEPA filters on them and will keep the dust down too. I had an old crusty hoover and I upgraded to a Fantom, it's about 10 times better, and you get attachments so you can easily pull down cobwebs and stuff. Definately worth it if you have an old style vacum cleaner. They cost about 100 to 150 US$. I had an ex girlfriend that had asthma, and she turned me on to it. Title: Re: Re: Houndog & Pete E. Ha ha. The other day I was talking to Y. and told her "Well, I have to go do my lanudry or I won't have anything to wear to work tomorrow" and she said "It won't be dry in time" and I said "Sure it will, I'll just put it in the machine" She said "Of course, a machine to wash the clothes, but you still have to hang them up to dry". I said "No, here we have machines to dry them too" and she was amazed! ....gee, guess I better not tell her I have a dishwasher, I'll save that one for a suprize. Title: Re: Re: Re: Houndog & Pete E. when you say she just couldn't get it, maybe she didn't understand you (piquito) if you want to say tiny, then say chiquito or pequeno (with the tilde over the n) maybe you meant poquito, which means a little, like, do you like fish? un poquito, a little. Hey bud, I am marrying a girl that is considered on the poor side...about cooking, whenever I am down there there is always fish and plantains, and eggs waiting for me on the table. Funny story, we got in our first arguement last time I was down there and left our apt to get some air...when I came back, there was my girl cooking me 3 hamburgers with a smile on her face as if nothing had happened. 'Poor' has something to be said for.... Later, Title: I hear ya Mike..... Post by: Hoda on May 22, 2001, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to Re: Re: cooking, posted by JunFan68 on May 21, 2001
