Title: Hot water and Personal Hygiene
Post by: Stones on May 25, 2001, 04:00:00 AM
Did I read somewhere that most Colombians don't have routine access to hot water in their homes? Or was this something I read regarding gringos staying in certain hotels? Anyway, has anybody noted a hygiene problem there? I would think this would be a concern for those without ready hot water. Are your ladies fresh and clean? Science has shown us that lack of hot water in living quarters creates all kinds of health concerns.

In BQ & Cartagena there is PLENTY of hot water as most place's hot water is heated by the sun...the key is finding a good hotel with cold water so you can cool off after the heat....Mike

I have found that most Latinas I met were extremely hygienic.
They often shower 4-5 times a day, and take pride in their appearance.

I did notice a few women at one agency tended to not shave their legs, but that is a cultural thing.

Hello Fellas,
The previous poster made a comment about ladies from one particular agency not shaving their legs.  Can you please elaborate and tell us which agency/country that was??  I need to know so I can avoid that place with a 10-foot pole.
I am not ashamed to admit that I am a leg man.  The thought of a lady with hairy legs freaks me out.  PEACE!

Ducis

I think it is fairly common down there. It is a cultural thing, not limited to any one agency. I would guess most would change their habiys once living in a country where, shaving of the legs is mcuh more prevalent.

Hey I've experienced that as well, but it depends on the girl. I do remember one girl in Cali that was extremely cute and even through her Panty Hose could notice, very hairy legs.

I don't see it being a problem as it is accepted down there. Up here, one would most likely change ones habits so as not to stick out like a sore thumb.

Well, good luck in finding an agency where ALL the girls shave their legs. I'm a leg guy too, but some women in Colombia don't shave their legs. Alot do, alot don't. To some of the women, it's just not important. It is a cultural thing, I suppose. I mean, my girl has real fine, real light hair on her legs. It's almost like it's not there, but I asked her why she didn't shave her legs anyway. She said that it looked good, so why should she shave? True, you don't even notice it because it is so light and fine (you guys know what I am talking about). But, being an American I like shaved legs too. Oh Well.
SOOOOO, if you don't want to take a chance finding a girl with some hair on her legs, just avoid the country altogether.

I agree on the hairy leg issue. Having been stationed in Europe for many years I learned to overlook the leg hair issue as long as the person kept themselves reasonably clean. The hairy armpits were another story. Could never quite get used to that and never really figured out why. It is just a matter of personal taste and if it is not to your liking you just keep moving forward until you find that special S.O. Just my $0.02. :-) LL&P.

Most Colombians,at least in Cali, don't have hot water. Its not a hygene problem, cold water works you just don't linger under it.It makes what is a pleasant few miniutes in a warm shower a get it over and out of here experience.
When we went to Bogota and stayed in a first class hotel my step son played in the water for about an hour.
We only stayed at one place without hot water my first 2 trips. My wife went in the shower and came out,no comment.I went in and "AAAH!this water is cold."I then asked her"You don't have hot water at home do you?The answer is no.
I stayed 31 days on my last trip in my mother in laws house,no hot water. You get used to it but it still isn't fun.You learn to splash yourself, soap up and then quickly rinse.

I remember reading that one of the first things that Spanish men found attractive about the aboriginal women of LA was that they were really clean and fresh smelling compared to the ladies back in Europe.

I too experienced an extended period in a hotel with no hot water.  Surprising to me but I got sort of used to it.  First, I put the feet under the cold water, then the hands, then the arms and shoulders, and so on.  It actually was very invigorating and refreshing experience.  Definitely woke me up in the morning!  One time in Tegucigalpa, Honduras the hotel ran completely out of water.  It was night, after a long day of traveling.  I spotted a pitcher of water in my room and an idea hit me.  I poured the water into a small plastic spray bottle that I had, and believe it or not I was able to cover my entire body with water and soap.  It did a sufficient job...and there was still water left in the bottle!  It made me think about how much water I normally waste at home.   One thinks cold water is a handicap until one has no water at all.  Then you'll really have a handicap and wish you had lots of cold water! LOL.

Hello:

According to alternative medicine people, it is good for the circulation and alternating hot and cold water for an extended period will improve your blood flow.
My colombian fiance, Nidyan, is very clean and maybe the cold water does not help the soap lather quite as quickly but overall cold or hot water does dissolve dirt.

Mi esposita de Peru is descendant of people from the jungle in Peru [as opposed to the mountains] There is no hair on her body except in the one important place [and long dark hair on her head] Point is, life is simpler for her, no shaving of legs or under arms. This is not a joke.

Just another possible benefit of going south :)

I know what you mean...that almost hairless skin is great to massage also. And not having all the ups and extras we have here makes my fiancee especially like taking nice hot bubble baths together, along with showing together alot of course.

Some of the fringe benefits of not being to afraid to take that step and buy a plane ticket I guess.

I think mine might have some 'jungle' in her also...she walks upright like us...but insists on going naked or with just a loin cloth alot. LOL

In my opinion there is no problem with hygiene in Cali. I have met many ladies there with no problem in this area.  The hotels and places I have stayed there has been no problem with a lack of hot water. It may not be as "hot" as you are used to in the States, but once again no problem. For many people in Cali, hot water may be a bit of a luxury during these tough times.

Hot water? Hot water? Have you ever stayed at the Windsor? My God, it'll boil the skin off your back. We had hot water at the Villa and it was freakin' hot! Thank God, we had cold water to compensate. LOL! The Pension Stein has a good supply of hot water. The Palace has hot water but with so many rooms and when you have customers it kind of goes quick, same as the Villa.
The residential sections probably have a problem, but I don't know how wide spread that might be. Some people might not even have a hot water heater. I concur with the idea that you can stay pretty clean with cold water if you have to. I hate cold water. Spent enough time in the infantry, you figure I would have gotten used to it, but I really hate taking cold showers. There is nothing like a nice hot shower. Maybe, I just appreciate it more having to live months without a nice warm shower.
I don't know, but has anyone gone out with a Colombian girl who reeked of B.O? I haven't and I know some of those girls weren't rich by any means. I don't know if they had access to hot water or not, but every woman I have been out with in Colombia have appeared to be "Clean and Fresh."
Anybody? Anybody? Bueller? Bueller?
