Title: Phone Cards
Post by: Richard Smith on May 14, 2001, 04:00:00 AM

I am going down to Columbia next week.  Can anybody recommend a phone card that they are happy with?  I bought one of the AT&T phone cards but it dosn't give information on the cost.  How long will the AT&T phone card last?  Thanks in advance.

Hi Rich,

I'm not clear from your post if you are trying to call from Colombia back to the States or vice-versa.  If you are calling to Colombia you can use a dial around service like 1016868 or perhaps the Union card:

If you are calling from Colombia, an AT&T calling card will work fine.  I have one and used it once by calling a local access number.  The price per minute depends on the International Plan you have with ATT.  The cheapest ATT calling card rate from Colombia back to the States was something like .78 per minute but this was several months ago.

The ATT rate seemed pretty steep to me so I found a cheaper rate with a callback service called Telcan:

I pay $.26 a minute to my cellular and $.21 to the phone in my apartment here in Cali.  The quality is not AT&T as there is a slight delay however it works good  if one person talks at a time.

Anyway good luck on your trip to Colombia.
