Title: Citizenship test - she passed! Post by: Jimbo on January 09, 2005, 05:00:00 AM Sally is to be sworn in at Faneuil Hall in Boston on January 26. That should be a fun day. It all started when she arrived in the US in May of 1999 and we were married two months later.
She said there were ten oral questions on civics and history, two English writing exercises, and a number of questions on the present state of her marriage. They also looked over the materials in the N-400 package and the documents that they asked us to carry in: marriage certificate, birth certificates, my divorce decree, latest tax returns. One more time, prove to us you have a legitimate marriage. Then they asked where I was. Sally told them I was walking around somewhere (but I was actually upstairs in the cafe having lunch). That was ok, they didn't hunt me down. For all the Asian ladies out there, here is a portion of what they asked Sally: -Who was President during the Civil War? -Write this sentence: "Today I came to Boston." No so bad, huh? Tell Gerlie if she really wants to become a US citizen someday, she must have to learn and study about the US history and US government. The US citizenship test it was really easy if you know the answer. :-)) So goodluck to you Gerlie and Howard. I wish you both a long day of happiness. Also goodluck with the AOS. Best wishes! I wonder how many Filipina wifes actually want to be American citizens? I have heard in the past that there are a lot who don't? Can you tell us some of the benefits you now expect because of this change? I know that taxes are a great deal higher for non-citizens should the spouse die but I only know this from hearsay - I have no record of it. Congradualations Sally - Welcome to the new American! Hi Bear, You're right, not all want to become citizens. The decision was hers and that's what she decided. She'll be able to vote and travel with fewer visa retrictions, I guess. Actually it makes for more work for us because we plan to semi-retire in the Phils in a year or two. My company may move this year and I've already decided not to follow them - or the business in general. I'm going to switch careers and work for myself. So now, Sally will have to apply for dual citizenship so we can live over there and own property. We will start the process with the NYC consulate soon. Thanks and Best Wishes for your happy and growing family! Jim Title: Re: Re: Citizenship test - she passed! Not higher taxes, it's just that the inheritance taxes have lower minimum before the taxes kick in and they're assessed upon your death. They're concerned that the non-citizen will return to their home country with the inheritance before the US gets their mordida. If your wife is a US citizen, they wait for her to kick off before assessing the inheritance taxes. It's not much to worry about unless your assets are will into the 7 figures - not so hard these days, though, with what's happening with real estate prices. There are also ways around the problems, with special family trusts. Consult your CPA. - Jeff Title: Re: Citizenship test - she passed! I even bought a Karaoke system so I could sing it, but still struggling though.:-)) When Jim heard me singing he was laughing at me because I was not an american at the time. But now I can sing it out loud. Oh no, don't run awaaaay.:-)) Yes,yes I am a big patriots fan. Go Pats! Say Hi to Criselda. Sally

Congratulations Jimbo and Sally Now you have a good excuse to pick out a nice place to celebrate. I'm toying with the idea of driving down to the Big Dig for a day or two for the honeymoon in the end of June. I remember driving up to Denver when I was in Colorado Springs to see my Hungarian friend swear in as a citizen it was quite intersting. Now he and his family are in Provincetown so we might swinng out to visit him sooner or later. Honeymoon --- a good excuse to go to the cape and bean town ! All the best to both of you !!! I think the most beautiful part of Colorado is around Durango and about 100 miles north to Ouray, Colorado. Did you drive through that area also? Stephen Title: Wow the weather !!!! Stephen I was Just watching ABC World News tonight, They just reported on the wet weather you are getting right now. I think that the good man upstairs is looking out for me -- I just saw that there was a huge mudslide in La Conchita California and many houses were demolished. I was living there for the last 3 1/2 years until I moved back East to Rochester NY last april. The chances are extremely good that the house where I was living in is not there anymore since it was on the top street with the hill rising straight upwards behind the house. About 15 houses were damaged they reported. How are you So Cal guys doing with all the rains ?
I think I made it through Durango with my Brother just before I left Colorado. We came north from Taos NM and we stopped at Durango for an hour before we went to vist Mesa Verde NP. What I remember is a monument in memory of the sister cities also named Durango in Mexico, Spain and another one somewhere in South America. We hung out by a river where there were Kayakers Shooting the rapids only to learn that Durango is the white water Olympic training grounds. After Mesa Verde NP we drove up to Telluride and then to Montrose CO -- What can I say but in America this truely is Gods country this part of colorado and the USA is unbelievable. Keep DRY Windy Title: Re: Wow the weather !!!! Post by: Jeff S on January 11, 2005, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to Wow the weather !!!!, posted by Windmill Boy on Jan 10, 2005
Yes, Eric - I was wondering if your house was still there. So far I heard nearly two dozen houses are under the mud. http://www.news24.com/News24/World/News/0,6119,2-10-1462_1645562,00.html Myself, I've cleaned Home Depot out of monkeywood and frantically started on my ark. Only 29 days and nights left to finish it. I'm counting on Stephen, Ray and Bob S to start collecting animals two by two. - Jeff Title: Re: Re: Wow the weather !!!! O.K. Jeff, I’ve got 2 each of flies, mosquitoes, crabs (crotch type), termites, and ants so far. Do you think anyone would really mind if we skip the cockroaches this time? And how do you determine if those crabs are male or female…Jay? Do you really think you have room for Shamu??? I don’t know…the weather report calls for sunshine tomorrow, but I’ll believe it when I see it. Ray :-) Title: Re: Re: Re: Wow the weather !!!! No, I guess Shamu will just have to fend for himself. Good, idea, skip the cucarachas. There's a simple test to see if crab lice are make or female: just lift their tails and count the holes. Finally got a little sunshine, but the pineapple express may back again before we know it. - Jeff Title: Congrats Sally! O.K. Jimbo, no more badmouthing American women now that you’ll officially be married to one. We’re still waiting for an interview date. I think they lost her application somewhere, but they never seem to lose the check. And that refund they promised for the fingerprint fee: I guess they forgot that too :-) It looks like all of Sally’s questions were right out of the 96-question study guide, except for “Where is Jimbo?” LOL! It’s a good thing they didn’t ask her if her husband was a kapre! See that Luther? Another Republican voter! It’s pretty depressing, isn’t it? LOL! I said no, my husband was kapre I mean a born US citizen.:-))) Now that I am an american citizen no one can kick me out of here in the United States of America. :-))!
