Title: Went to Tampa Phil Fest Post by: jon on April 03, 2004, 05:00:00 AM Was trying to figure out if I wanted to go or not, but kinda planned to. Went 2 years ago and it was OK, but a bit depressing walking about by myself.
Got up early and ended up in a chat with a pinay on a dating site. I explained I was about to go somewhere but she wanted to talk to me and she had to go home from the cafe where she was but was going to use a cousins pc there. So I delayed going and waited for her. When she got back online she jumped around on subjects with lots of yes/no/k/um answers but then stuck to questioning me about my family life which was pretty bad and she would not let go of it. Finally I told her I was done and signed off. Then I decided to not go to the Fest. But I had to go out for errands and ended up going anyway. Well it really sucks being a single white guy walking around at a bario festival. I'm pretty shy so I'm not going to go up to talk to someone and I really felt out of place. So $9 and an hour later, I was done and home now as I write this. Guess I am feeling kinda blue about the past 5 years thinking that I could meet someone. The past 2 weeks I was trying to get to know a gal in HK who contacted me but she is super-hyper religious and I have not heard from her since a sent a recent picture she asked for (I had 5 pics in my ad). Same gal who had a long sex topic conversation with me and went on to thump the bible. This has been so weird. "Same gal ... went on to thump the bible." Um, if you don't want someone who's strongly religious, why are you looking in the Phils? (You know, strong Catholicism and all that...) You might want to consider the other island archipeligo to the north of the Phils. In Japan they don't believe in anything (generally speaking of course). Like Europe, religious practices are cultural, not faith-based. And as for all these guys telling you to go for a visit, forget that. If you got nothing major tying you down here, pick a prefered country and MOVE there (and make the most of your Charisma-Man White God factor!). If you got any kind of university degree (even from a dipoloma mill on the internet), you can B.S. your way through an interview and get a job at an English language school to support yourself over there. When you are serious about seeking women, the worst thing you can allow to happen is to get stuck in a depressive rut. Seek and ye shall find. Jon's quote: "Same gal ... went on to thump the bible." Uh, We talked about a lot of different things but now she have focused very strongly on religion. "Um, if you don't want someone who's strongly religious..." Uh, I never said I had a problem with religion. I was raised roman catholic and was even an alter boy for a number of years (unmolested). As i stated above, she seeems to now be very single mined and vocal. For me, I really shy away from organized religion as it seems very much like politics to me, all about collecting money and telling everyone who does not vote the ticket that they are going to h*ll. "And as for all these guys telling you to go for a visit, forget that. If you got nothing major tying you down here, pick a prefered country and MOVE there.." Uh, I have lived overseas, seen most of europe, UK, Israel, and the Phils. Oh, yeah, I have an education at college level. "Seek and ye shall find." Uh, that's what I have been doing. "I really shy away from organized religion as it seems very much like politics to me," Yeah, personality conflicts, power struggles, and the mouthpieces come out in force on Sunday morning. "I have lived overseas,..." A non-sequitur, unless you were actively seeking a European, Israeli, or Filipina woman at the time. "'Seek and ye shall find.' If you say so, but IMHO it seemed from your post like you were just looking. Don't take this the wrong way, it's meant to be an encouragement. False starts and crash and burns are part of the risks, so we don't want you to be discouraged by your results so far. While in Japan I met a few guys who went over there to take a year-long contact job so they can stay long term to search for a wife. Depending an one's background and interest, it can be done in almost any East Asian country. So if your current technique isn't working, I'd suggest an alternate method for the seriously committed who have the wherewithal or ability (like yourself) to take major steps. (However, if you have major commitments holding you back like a dying parent or children from a previous marriage, then nevermind; do what you gotta.) Besides, you know how these things go: as soon as you've made plans to move to and work in the Phils and are all ready to go, you'll meet some nice Filipina who just happens to live down the block from where you do now... Hi Jon, Did you at least eat some lumpia while you were there? :-) Well, if you can't afford a trip to the Phils now, you can always come out to San Diego where every day is Phil Fest (LOL). They're building a little Philippines in National City that should be interesting when it's done. Hang in there and keep "fishing". You have to be ready because a good one could bite at any moment. Try this trick to meet Filipinas in your area. Wear one of those souvenir T-shirts with a large CEBU printed on it, front and back. You may just be surprised when you are out shopping and the sales girl says something like "Hey, that's my home town! Have you been to Cebu"? That's your opening, so run with it! She probably at least has a sister or niece looking also. Hey Jon, Ray is right, San Diego is loaded with Pinays. My wife has relatives in that area. Just need to over come some of your shyness. Maybe advertised will do the trick. Just think Pinoy. joemc Title: Re: Re: Went to Tampa Phil Fest Post by: Jeff S on April 04, 2004, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to Re: Went to Tampa Phil Fest , posted by Ray on Apr 4, 2004
This I gotta see, Ray. Where's Little Phils being built in beautiful downtown National City? - Jeff Title: Filipino Village Post by: Ray on April 05, 2004, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to Re: Re: Went to Tampa Phil Fest , posted by Jeff S on Apr 4, 2004
Hi Jeff, They will develop a few miles of Plaza Blvd, which already has a large concentration of Filipino businesses. I think they are pretty close to nailing down the details and it has a lot of support from the businesses in the area and the Filipino community. The mayor said he got the idea from visiting Little Saigon in Orange County. There was a planning meeting a while back and a lot of Filipinos had some ideas that were submitted, including authentic jeepneys and kalisas (horse carriages) for public transportation, a beer garden sponsored by the San Miguel Corp (hic!), a gambling casino so the old folks won’t have to go all the way out of town to the Indian reservations (LOL), and al kinds of far-out stuff. The city will also use some land it owns in that area. We shop down there all the time and my wife’s cousin lives there. My dentist’s office is also down there. I think it’s a great idea and the mayor is really pushing it, so we’ll see what happens. And here I was thinking that I was missing something doing my Martial Artrs all day for 46 years LOL. Just kidding Jon but sometims it is better to be with no one than the wrong one. Sometimes it is more interesting to fish without catching anything. Jon I would highly recommend you take a trip to the Philippines. Even without a penpal to meet you can still have a great time. I and others here on PL can set you up with contacts who can introduce you to someone there and show you around. A two week trip can be done for around $2000 (or less depending on your ticket price)including air fare. [This message has been edited by Jay] Hi Jon, You may have already thought about this, but how about planning a trip, getting on a plane and going to the Philippines? If you met somebody here through the net and hooked up, you would have to go there anyway, why not just take a trip yourself? You would have loads of fun and meet more women than you could handle. Plus you get to meet them in person. Being shy is not a problem in the Philippines. It may seem expensive, but it's really not, plus it would be a good investment of time and money. I'm just assuming you haven't done this yet. Really man, if you've been trying to hook up online for 5 years and haven't done so yet, I believe a trip is definitly worthwhile. I felt bad for you while reading this post. Try to cheer up. I'll bet my (bad) reputation on it that if you go there, you'll have a beautiful, sweet, loving, honest and true Filipina sleeping next to you at night within a year or two. ;-) Take Care, Title: Good idea. Looks like we had the same idea for Jon lol. Hey what the hell happened to Dave? I heard he and Marfie had a new baby girl A few months back maybe that's keeping him busy. Hi Hum, Yeah, now that you've "let the cat out of the bag" :-), that's true. I'm sure he's very busy with the little one, not to mention, two teenage boys. I've only spoken to Dave once in the last 6+ months. That was back in January, I think. I miss him. Maybe he will show up here eventualy. I'll bet he still lurk's, though. This site can be addicting. I know for me, during my recent troubles, I still HAD to get to Matt's house once or twice a week to "check the board". LOL! Jay Title: Hey! Hey Jay, Finally got back on P-L. I had a lot of reading to catch up on! Great to hear that things are going much better for you since last we last spoke! :o) Hang in there! I've been real busy with everything. The baby is doing good, 7 months today. One of my son's attackers is facing life in prison. As for my son, he is doing much better, he says it only hurts when he smiles. :o) Dave H. Title: Welcome back Dave! [This message has been edited by jon] Hi jay, hope you are well. Yes, I have been to the Phils, about 4 years ago to Cebu City, it did not go so well. I started cronicling it here, but never finished it. The problem with returning is I am now making 72% of what I used to, so now I just get by. But I am better off than at 1 1/2 years ago with my things in storage, bankrupt, no job prospects, and moved from friend to friend. So that is a tough one. I spent my tax return on a old 1942 Ford truck that i have to figure out how to get here from Canada. Seemed like a better investment at this point. Really, I am not trying to whine. I have been on this forum from the start and have seen people go through a lot and have done so myself. Just begining to wonder. Seems old fat bald guys by the dozen get married every day with no (initial) problem ...oops wait, now I'm and old and fat, but I have hair, where's the clippers? Hi Jon, I didn't think you were whining. Hope I didn't make it sound that way. Just throwing out my two cents. I know you've been on PL forever, I just couldn't remember if you had been over there yet. Well, if your first trip went bad, try again when you get the chance. Just go for vacation. Again, if you met someone now, you would STILL have to find a way to take a trip there. I don't know why these old bald-headed farts get hooked up easy either, but the clippers might not be a bad idea. LOL!
