Title: copies or originals for verifying relationshi Post by: Troy on February 26, 2004, 05:00:00 AM I am trying to get a K-1 visa. I have letters and envelopes, plane tickets, and photos to show proof that I have met my Peruvian fiance and we have established a relationship. Do I have to send the originals, or will they accept copies of tickets and stuff? I don't mind giving away the originals of my photos, but the other stuff I would rather not.
Thanks. Title: Re: copies or originals Post by: Ray on February 26, 2004, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to copies or originals for verifying relati..., posted by Troy on Feb 26, 2004
Troy, They will usually accept legible photocopies of any original documents except INS forms or documents created specifically to support your petition, e.g., employer letters, written statement of intent, etc. Make sure that copies are legible and copy both sides of the document. If you submit a photocopy of your passport, you should copy all pages that contain any information. You should also include the following statement, signed and dated, in your cover letter: “Copies of documents submitted are exact photocopies of unaltered original documents and I understand that I may be required to submit original documents to an Immigration or Consular official at a later date.” Your fiancée should have the originals of anything you submitted copies of when she goes for her interview and when she enters the country, just in case they ask to see them. thanks for the info, Ray. One more question, what do I need a cover letter for? I didn't know it was required. Title: Re: Re: Re: copies or originals Post by: Ray on February 27, 2004, 05:00:00 AM ... in response to Re: Re: copies or originals, posted by Troy on Feb 27, 2004
A cover letter is not required but it's just good business practice in most cases. It's your choice. Either way, it's a good idea to have your package neatly organized and provide an itemized list of the contents. http://uscis.gov/graphics/fieldoffices/scnational/index.htm#H Ray |
