Title: Announcing... Post by: Bob S on October 11, 2003, 04:00:00 AM ...the marriage of Bob S., the humble geek engineer, to Akiko H., the talented
writer and artist from Yamaguchi prefecture, Japan. We officially signed the papers of marriage on June 12 to legally become husband and wife. At the time we still lived apart at opposite ends of Japan. We later had a church cremony on Sept. 21 (last month) when we moved in together followed by a honeymoon in New Zealand. I have since returned to California to seek better employment. Akiko has an interview for her visa in Tokyo later this month after which she will have oral surgery. A month after that when she is released from the care of her doctor, she will join me here in Southern California. You can see the wedding photo of us in full kimono and hakama formal wear on page 4 of Jeff's web site at http://www.geocities.com/jeffsatpl/ hp_mpg4.html. If your web browser doesn't have too much trouble with Japanese script, you can see more photos of the wedding and reception on my wife's web site at http://www5.ocn.ne.jp/~inuno/privatenews.htm. Now for new beginnings. Gambarimasu, ne! Title: Re: Announcing... Post by: Febtember on October 13, 2003, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to Announcing..., posted by Bob S on Oct 11, 2003

Bob How does it feel to be going through reverse culture shock ha ha ha. After a year abroad are there some americana aspects that you forgot about or maybe chose to forget about? I'm looking forward to having the chance for getting together with you, Jeff, Mariko, Stephen, Tess and anyone else who wants to join us sometime in the near future. I'm interested in hearing about your trip to New Zealand sometime soon. I'm looking forward to seeing Akiko again later on down the road when she arrives. Everything in America is BIG. Big cars, big wide roads, big supermarkets with big shopping baskets demanding to be filled with big portion foods to increase our ever expanding big arses. Can't wait to get back to a big apartment and work for a big company that pays a big salary. Don't forget about the big taxes, the big electric bills and the big expenses LOL Title: You forget,Peter.... Post by: Jeff S on October 14, 2003, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to Re: What I forgot, posted by Peter Lee on Oct 13, 2003
... he's spent the last year in Japan, just outside Tokyo. He's probably thinking, geez, what cheap clothes, gas, food, and power - and booze is practically free! - Jeff Title: Honto desu ne! On the flight over to Japan on my first business trip back in 1977, I was sitting next to a young Japanese businessman who was returning from his first trip to the US. When I asked him how he liked the US, his eyes widened and he said, "Everything is very BIG there." I didn't know what he meant until I got off the plane. It hard to describe to someone who's never been there, but everything seems miniature. On my last trip I was taking an early morning walk in Yamaguchi-ken and came across a road construction site. Even the heavy machinery seemed 1/4 scale. I was fascinated by a tracked steam shovel type machine rhat I half expected to be displaying a Tonka nameplete. - Jeff Title: Re: Announcing... ...after I get settled. I'll be apartment hunting in HB or around Manhattan Beach depending on who picks up my contract. Akiko has already quit her O.L. job and is living off unemployment now, so I'm sure she'll appreciate it if her unemployed husband finds work quickly. :-) Title: Re: See you soon... When will you be back? HB, along Warner between Goldenwest and PCH is a good corridor for apartments, as well as the area of Redondo Beach across Manhattan Beach Blvd from TRW. Costa Mesa is a good choice, these days, too, around South Coast Plaza. It's near all the Japanese merchants, too. They built a new big Kinokyunia bookstore and Marukai membership grocery store on Harbor Blvd near the 405, along with the attending sushi bars, soba shops, etc. and they completely remodeled Mitsuya grocery store with an all new food court, bookstore, and small shops (bakery, manju, ceramics, etc.) inside. When are you headed back? - Jeff Title: Dummy me! Post by: Jeff S on October 13, 2003, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to Re: See you soon..., posted by Jeff S on Oct 13, 2003
