Title: opinions from a post on the latin board Post by: Chris F on October 04, 2003, 04:00:00 AM For those guys who are married to a filipina wife...I would like some feedback on the post below...please note that I did not write it..it came from the latin board concerning a discussion about filipina wives over latina wives....I am not trying to stir up any feathers here...just asking for feedback about your opinions about this post.
Have you ever been to the PI? How many filipinas have you met? In 20 years in the Navy I have probably been there 50 times. Living in San Diego, I deal with them almost daily. I like the filipino people but would rather drive a burning stake through my heart than marry one. I have seen so many young American sailors fall in love with a lady in PI, marry her and bring her back to the states only to have her leave for a filipino already here. I have seen such marriages be very successful but less than 10%. The filipino people are much less accepting of interracial marriages than latinos. Your filipina wife will be under incredible pressure from other filipinos to leave you and join her "own" people once she is here. Latinos are much more willing to assimilate with the general population than filipinos. If you would like to know what you are in for try becoming a part of the filipino community in a social setting. Be prepared to be completely ignored. You are not wanted there and if you have a filipina wife she will be ostrisized (sp) and you will be rejected completely. Filipinas with American husbands can only socialize with filipinas with American husbands. I wish you luck. You will need it regardless of where you look. It is not your money or citizenship that will ensure a successful relationship, its your heart. Put your heart on your sleeve and see who bites. Then you will know. Chris I really do not know what it matters what anyone has to say on the latin board... In fact I really do not thing it matters what it on what someone has to say on the eastern eur board. I like latins but I also like to read what people have to say here because I do like filipinas too. If you wanted to stir the pot you should have post your views over on the latin board. One thing I do want to ask you where did you find that message I looked and cannot find it? The responsibility is yours and yours alone. If your reasons and expectations are realistic and honorable, you could probably find a good wife anywhere. Lets generalize the Mexican women like this guy from the Latin board. (just for fun no offence intended) ;-)
The Mexican people are much less accepting of interracial marriages than Filipino's. Jeff now your stereotyping every man on the Latin Board as breast chasers. I wanted to look for a wife in Brazil because I want to go somewhere that I may eventually move. I believe you can find an honest wife in almost any country. I spent three weeks in Brazil this summer and the women in the region weren't flounting their breasts out for everyone to see, in fact they were dressed pretty conservatively. Now if you go to the beach you will see a whole different side of Brazil and they will not cover up like a Pinay would. I have never met as friendly of people like Brazilians, very few other cultures will take you into a house and welcome you. When I was there complete strangers to me invited me to supper. They do tend to have lots of discussions about body parts and looks, though. I believe, as you, that there are great women everywhere. The trick is spending enough time and paying close enough attention to the signals to find a good one. My parents were good friends with many exiled Cubans and also Latin Americans, including entertainers and business people. Most of my neighbors and friends were/are Hispanic. I just go by what I have seen of Asian women with their clothes on. I meant no disrespect by my remark. Some guys like blondes. Some guys like tall girls. I like women with large breasts. Hi Chris, I have to agree with the other posters! I was involved with Latinas for the past 30 years, married for 12.5 years. I could say plenty of bad things and talk about horror stories I know first hand, but it is of little value. You can find plenty of good and bad ladies in Latin America, as well as the Philippines. I was ready for a change and have been married to my Filipina wife for 2 years (engaged 1 year prior). I have never been happier! She just "feels right." I personally think the poster and his friends have probably experienced little of the Philippines besides San Miguel beer, Tanduay Rum and professional ladies of Olongapo and Angeles. Not that that it is necessarily a bad thing per say...some guys do get lucky there and find a good wife. But I myself wouldn't risk it. ...I am half Puerto-Rican and I know first-hand about "culture assimilation". Although PR is a US commonwealth, my cousin has been married 3 times already--and she's only 34! She just can't find a man that will put up with her attitude. My sister has been married 5 times (really, no kidding) and she is 36. She just falls in love with another guy each time she goes out on a "girl's night" with her friends (and the cousin). My grandmother on that side was even married twice. the large community of Filipinos in California and the controlling attitudes of Filipinas toward others I'd say for some living in California, there might be some credence to this argument. My wife is constantly reminded about the evil that was forced on her (by even her best friends and family) in the way of blatantly cruel remarks. But then once you get out of California I think its all going to depend on where you are living and the Filipinos your wife assosiates with and how well you did you home work before you were married. The Filipinos in our group here are in no way like that but I have seen some groups here where the Filipinas are exactly like that. I suggest it behoves you to be involved and knowing. I have heard stories both ways on living in the R.P. and since I don't live there I can't commment other than what I have observed. Prejudice appears to be age/community specific and on occasion maybe even race related. But generally Filipinos are more supportive and accepting of Americans than any other countries I've been. Oddly enough I know numerous successful marriages between Americans and many different asian cultures, even a Cambodian. I don't know any successful marriages on the Latino or Russian sides. Guess I just haven't been looking. I've seen failures on all sides but it seems to me its always related to a lack of communication rather than intent to deceive, but there have been some where deception was part of the plan from the beginning. From my experience, the only non-Filipinos who feel rejected by Filipinos are usually the ones who feel superior to Filipinos and look down upon them. Unfortunately, I have known many such individuals during my time in the Navy. A little humility goes a long way. Treat them with respect and they will welcome you with open arms. Look down upon them and yes, you will feel rejected! Filipinos are well known for their hospitality toward strangers and people of other nationalities.
