Title: Song for newbies
Post by: Jimbo on March 10, 2003, 05:00:00 AM
Walking Manila (by Jim H.)
--sung to the tune of "Walking in Memphis" by Marc Cohn

Put on my rubber shoes
And I boarded the plane
Touched down in the land where the jeepney rules
In the middle of a smokey haze
Lovely filipina - won't you take a look at me
Yeah I got a first class beer belly
But I'm ready to do a K-3

Then I'm walking Manila
Looking for a sweet filipina bride
Walking Manila
But is she going to take me for a ride?

Saw the ghost of Marcos
On Quirino Avenue
Followed him up to the gates of the PNB
Then I watched him walk right through
Now Imelda she did not see him
She was busy buying shoes
But there's a tough little guy
Drunk on Tanduay
Trying to do it too

Then I'm walking Manila
Looking for a sweet filipina bride
Walking Manila
But is she going to take me for a ride?

They've got ginamos on the table
They've got dried fish in the air
And the girls will be glad to see you
If you spend without a care
Boy you better take care in Manila

Now Annabelle sings karaoke
Every night in the hotel bar
So I sat there drinking San Mig
And I think I lost my heart
Such a little number
And she sang with all her might
And she said-
"Tell me are you a Catholic boy?"
And I said "Ma'am I am tonight!"

Put on my rubber shoes
And I boarded the plane
Touched down in the land where the jeepney rules
In the middle of a smokey haze
Touched down in the land where the jeepney rules
In the middle of a smokey--- haze

Thanks Dave,

That was a tough one.  I was stuck on a few lines for a long time.  But it was a great fit because of the idea of boarding a plane and walking in a city for the first time.  I knew I had to do it when I got the "Saw the ghost of Marcos" in my head -LOL!
