I would install a wall of old tires around the car just like a tug boat so you bounce off anything you hit. Hum don't forget to wear a helmet and whatever you do don't scream at a driving woman because she will just panic and hit the excelerator instead. Also go to church and ask for forgivness of your sins so if something happens you will be covered. Put your mobile phone on speed dial for 911. Also carry your blood type card around your neck in case. I'm just messing with you don't panic it's just a car ha ha ha.

Hi Stefang,

I've been seriously thinking about wearing a helmet and installing a roll cage. ;o) Tires around the car would be nice. My son has a monster truck so everyone stays clear of him or they get run over! Most of the people in South Florida just glue various saints on their dash board. I don't know which ones work the best? Reminds me of a song:

"Plastic Jesus" by Ernie Marrs

I don't care if it rains of freezes
'Long as I got my Plastic Jesus
Riding on the dashboard of my car.

Through my trials and tribulations
And my travels through the nations
With my Plastic Jesus I'll go far.
Plastic Jesus! Plastic Jesus,
Riding on the dashboard of my car

I'm afraid He'll have to go.
His magnets ruin my radio
And if I have a wreck He'll leave a scar.
Riding down a thoroughfare
With His nose up in the air,
A wreck may be ahead, but He don't mind.

Trouble coming He don't see,
He just keeps His eye on me
And any other thing that lies behind.
Plastic Jesus! Plastic Jesus,
Riding on the dashboard of my car ...

I forgot a few things? Rent a defibrillator for a day just in case and have Sallie trained to use it on you. Also do us a favor and strap a camera to the dash so we can all see a homemade movie, you never know when you can win America's funniest videos.

Humabdos,
I don't drink at all but, darned if Ray's advice to get drunk first isn't about the best advice I've seen in a while for your situation.   With an automatic, it's bad enough but having the extra complication of synchronizing brakes, clutch and gas while learning all the traffic laws and rules....I feel for you and Sally both.  Maybe you should run down to WalMart right now and get a big tub of Bondo for the inevitable bumps.  haha
WE had a automatic car and it almost shot my nerves.  LOL
                      Good luck,

Hi Humabdos,
Please tell Sallie "Congrats" from me.
My husband wants to teach me to drive a five speed but I'm not ready on that one yet, I might try later on... Actually, I'm still a 'lil bit scared of driving in auto speed how much more five speed? :) He even teasing me to teach me to drive on his 18th wheeler (has an 18th speed too) and I said to him NO WAY! I'll be scared to death but I like to go w/ him on the road though :).

Hi NNP, I tried to drive 5 speed before but I always forgot to change the shift gear and give me headache. I prefer automatic.

Hi Hum,

Hire someone!!! I "drove" my son absolutely nuts! He was driving my car and I was yelling all the time. I am an instructor in EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operations Course) and defensive driving. My wife says she wants to learn from someone else.  ;o))) Smart lady!

Hey Dave
While we are on the subject of driving!!
I got my International driving license for free with my AAA card.  It is good for a year, I didn't know it and they didn't tell me but if you have a plus on the card [means you paid extra] your passport photo is free.  I paid $10 for the photos coz they told me on the 800 number to bring photos.   Oh well! Dats over 500 pesos hehe.   My question was that if i wanted to drive a motorcycle in the PI will my Internationa license which only shows that i drive a passanger car cover me for the cycle?  They have motorcyle clubs that tour the PI and they seem to have a lot of fun and adventure.  But i thought I would pick your brain on this one.

Hi Peter,

I don't know if they have a separate motorcyle driver's license in the Philippines. I know you can buy a driver's license there without taking a test. LOL

I have to say that after riding my bike all around Cebu City driving in the US is easy.   Remember don't honk the horn like they do in the PI and don't drive 2" away from the next car.  If you stop at red light once in a while your doing good.  Screeming works to get the attention off your mistakes good idea LOL.

Hi Esiang,

The main reason I was yelling at my son was to watch out for the crazy freakin' drivers who were breaking most of the traffic laws. This is one of the worst places to drive in the US! When my son was learning, we saw people driving on the wrong side of the road coming toward us, running red lights, U-turns on red lights, stopping dead in the road, you name it! The most common violation is right turns on red lights or at STOP signs without stopping or even slowing down, sometimes crossing numerous lanes of traffic. We saw one lady lose control in front of us, hit another car, shoot across 3 lanes of traffic, jump a curb and roll over onto its side in a ditch...cell phone still glued to her ear, talking. =8o( Here you have to expect the totally unbelievable!!! I call it "Offensive Driving."

when my husband yelled at me, I get so nervous,
that's why it's better for me to yelled at him so I feel so cool driving.he..he...

I've experience that too crazy guys driving on the wrong side, anyway I'll always expect people like these anytime.

LOL for that lady so crazy, good for her....
crazy drivers talking on the cel. and smoking while driving, they should be prohibited.

Speaking from my experience,

First choice: If you can afford it, hire a professional driving instructor.

Second choice: Have a friend teach her.

Last choice: If you MUST teach her yourself, get drunk first!

Filipinos are naturals with stick shifts. How many automatics have you seen in the Phils? :-)

Hi Ray,

I can't imagine a Cuban lady with a stick shift! Drinking coffee, eating, putting on makeup, talking on a cellphone, making gestures with her hands...all at the same time, while trying to shift! :o)))
