Title: SOBS?
Post by: Ray on November 20, 2002, 05:00:00 AM
Now that the HSA (Homeland Security Act) has passed, the days of INS (Immigration and Naturalization Service) are numbered. I guess we will soon be writing our checks to the BCIS (Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services). And if someone goes TNT (Tago Ng Tago), they can be deported by the BBS (Bureau of Border Security). Also, the DHS (Dept of Homeland Security) will oversee the issuance of all visas, which should be interesting. And the CISO (Citizenship and Immigration Services Ombudsman) is going to figure out how to fix all the current mess at INS (Immigration and Naturalization Service).

I really don’t know what all of this means, but with most of the same people in there, I imagine that we’ll be seeing more of the SOBS (Same Old Bull Sheett) for a while at least.

Hi Ray,

Sounds confusing to me! But, we're probably less confused about what should be done than the people running immigration. LOL Go after the illegals!!!

We were down at Miami INS this week for AOS (no problems). The immigration officer looked through all of our documents and seemed happy that everything was in order, then said "congratulations!" She told us some of the horror stories she deals with on a daily basis...people marrying someone other than the person who petitioned them, etc. Then she sat back, relaxed and looked through our photo album and scrapbook again. The immigration officer (Puerto Rican) was very interested in Philippines, as she usually deals with Latin Americans. Haitians go to another facility. She  really seemed to enjoy her time with us. When we left, I could see why. At least a quarter of the people brought their lawyers, along with 3-4 generations of family members. One fat lady was demanding in Spanish that she be seen "ahora mismo! (right now), since she didn't have all day and it was almost lunch time. I didn't see any goats or chickens. However, we stopped at a nearbye McDonalds and saw a couple enjoying lunch with their son and dog in one of booths. We decided to pass and eat at home.

Me in a suit & tie, Mariko in a nice dress, heels, jewlery, and Louis Vitton purse at the downtown INS office in Los Angeles for our two year permanent interview. 99% of the office was filled with Mexicans, some with Lawyers, nearly all with several generations of relatives and a herd of ill behaved kids, most dressed ready to pick strawberrys, all yammering loudly in Spanish while eating. Our interview lasted about 2 minutes when the Officer asked to see her driver's license and she showed him her wallet. Of course it had her married surname on it and in there were a number of credit cards, Costco, AAA & other membership cards displayed in there with the same name. The officer pulled out a recipt from her wallet. It was from Eagleson's Big & Tall stores for a couple of suits, shirts & ties - not too popular a shop for most Japanese. He said "thank you" and that was it.

Hi Steve,

Thanks! Congrats to both of you also! I wonder what agency we will be dealing with in two years?

March sounds good, but no fish heads! LOL

Glad to hear that someone had a painless AOS. There have been some real messy ones reported recently on the other board.

McDogalds? Was the dog having a Happy Meal? Or was the family eating the dog? ROFLMAO!

Thanks Ray,

I wonder how Tito Matt's AOS went?

Maybe the family at McDonalds were fattening up the dog for the holidays. :-O  It was eating French fries and a McChicken sandwich. I always see the back door open every time I go to the Chinese restaurant. It makes you wonder if those rumors are true. The pepper steak has been tasting a little strange lately and I find myself lifting my leg when I pee. ;o)))

I'm a little confused by this whole thread.  I have heard of dogs being a delicacy of the Oriental Culinary Arts, but in Mexico they eat mostly chicken and beef.

Hi valuedcustomer,

My wife and I stopped at a Miami (los Estados Unidos de América) McDonalds last week. While standing in line, we saw a Hispanic family sitting in a booth with their dog, eating lunch. The dog was eating a McChicken sandwich and fries. None of the employees seemed to mind. Several even petted it on their way back to the kitchen, from the restroom. My wife and I didn't stick around to see if the dog was having an apple pie or icecream for dessert. 8oP

I haven't heard of Hispanics eating dog...manatee (sea cow) and porpoise, yes. The Spanish used to call manatee "sea beef" and it was classified as a "fish" by the Spanish Catholic Church. I know oldtimers who used to enjoy eating both.

It's going to take some time for them to set this whole thing up. I'm glad I should be able to get my things done through the old system first.
Frankly, I'm a little frightened by how this process will be altered if people like the John Ashcroft Gestapo get involved.

So, I take it that you would rather have Janet Reno back? ROFL! You can sleep easy because the Attorney General will not be in charge of the new BCIS.

Under the new law, they have up to a year to implement everything, but I have a feeling that things will move quickly now that bozo-brain Tom Daschle will be out of the way :-)

Isn't that a  bit like asking if you prefer
Stalin or Hitler? lol

Though the titles may have changed, you know it's the same ol' SOBs (Sons of Beeches) still running things.

When I'm ready to bring back my own little geisha, will the process be more streamlined or more complex than the last time I imported a gal 3 years ago.  GEE, I WONDER...

I really don't know what to think of the new Homeland Security thing.  We have not had it since 9-11-01 and the country has been safe.  I don't know if we really need it.

I just can't believe that any government agency can be more cost effective than private business.  I think in the end the government bureaucracy just continues upward.

I sure don't have any faith in the INS.  Don't get me wrong.  I had no problem with getting Tess here.  I'm talking about how they handle illegal aliens.  It's a joke.

The INS recently sent Juliet 3, count them, 3 letters saying her green card is on its way.  So far, she has only received 1 green card.  This was from the Nebraska service center.  I think those cornhuskers are having a hard time this fall,,with their football team losing several games this year...LOL
