Well, guys, most college students these days (myself included :) tend to think of summer vacation as a time for lying back and relaxing a bit.  But I'm not going to have that chance LOL! :)  No, sir, my summer is going to be very busy.

First, I'm working at my restaurant again, and this summer I'll be pulling about 40 hours/week, leaving me little time for anything else.

Second, I've got to take the GRE, which is a text that supposedly determines how well I'll do in grad school when I finally get there, so I need to study for that.

Third, I'd REALLY like to get some of my writing published, since my main goal is to be a writer.

Fourth, I need to start working on a decision: I am giving myself two options after I get out of undergrad: go straight to grad school, or go to Japan for a couple of years and teach English.  At the moment, grad school is looking good, but I've not ruled Japan out yet.

Busy summer LOL! :)  So please, wish me luck.  I'm gonna need it! :)

Those breaks between the bachelor's degree and grad school tend to stretch out into a lifetime in many cases (myself included).  I've seen it happen many times.  If you really want the advanced degree, I think you should go straight through.

One of the guys I know who never went back got a bachelor's in linguistics and is now teaching English in Japan on his "break."  He's been there 6 years now!

You brought back fond memories of Alice Cooper and summer vacations. Hmmm grad school or Japan...well I'm 45 years-old, so I vote for Japan! :o))) But then again, I spent most of my college days in the rathskeller. I have found that school is hard to go back to once you've tasted the freedom of the outside world. Do what's right for you! Have a GREAT summer vacation!

Well it's about time for me to celebrate about school being out for good.  I mean I'm about finally through with grad school.  Yesterday, I finished my final grad-school project, a 21-page paper.  I ended up presenting it last night (thought I'd do it Wednesday night).  Phew, what a releif!  Tomorrow is the last class, and then I'm ready to graduate.

For the record (who's post above?) going to grad school part-time is not easy, but well worth it if the opportunity exists.  I work at a college and have the tuition waiver fringe benefit.  I kept putting it off, but finally started.  I started in 1996, part of the reason for motivation was to please my ex-wife.  In that sense, she always wanted me to be more than what I was.  Other people used to urge my to go for my graduate degree too because the opportunity existed.

Well, it took six years to go part-time (one course per semester, and two summer level courses).  Graduate level courses are very demanding.  I was out of school for one year because of going through the divorce.  At the time absolutely no way I could concentrate.  As I was going through the divorce, my father was urging me to continue working towards my Master's Degree ASAP.  I'm lucky in the sense that I was able to do it, afterall, before having a family.  In different circumstances it would have been much more difficult.

Sometimes it is good to wait a few years after earning a Bachelor's Degree.  One's initial career path can help guide him in the direction he wants to go.  There are pros and cons.  If you're young, you probably need to borrow alot to go full-time, and not only that, worry about supporting yourself for the next 2 years and hope to get a good job immediately after graduating.  On the other hand, if one goes on into the white-collar workforce, and the employer offers csome kind of tuition assistance, it's a good opportunity to consider.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! Is that a Masters of Public Administration of Methane Gas? I thought for sure that you had your Ph.D. in that already. :o))) There must be a city somewhere in the world named "Farten" or "Farton" where you can be mayor.

LOL! Have you had anyone from Big Beaver Lick, KY or Big Bone Lick, KY. :o))) When I was visiting my cousin in Cincinnati, we went to Big Bone Lick State Park...I was a bit worried, as I had visions George Michaels jumping out of the bushes.  =8oO  Maybe that would have been little b...never mind! Turns out it is a  pretty neat place. I sure wish they had a "Big Beaver Lick State Park." ;o)))

I've been to Morehead Kentucky, what a disapointment maybe I should of went to a womens study class or something. I think I'll go to Hell MI just to prove to everybody that you can go to Hell and back.

Don't forget the good Amish of PA with Intercourse, Bird in Hand, Blueball, Climax. Warning, Don't buy the Shoofly pies in Bird in Hand PA. The Peach muffins from Climax are awesome you'll be back for more.

How about Middlefart, Denmark!  (ha-ha)

Speaking of Denmark, Carlsburg beer comes from Denmark.  I don't think I ever tried it.  It is sold in the United States, bit it is pretty much inconspicuous.  On the other hand, when I was in the Philippines, there were Carlsburg ads all over the place.  The Carlsburg advertising campaign was probably about as big as that for San Miguel.

I realize you didn't ask for advice but I can't resist a word or two in favor of the overseas option. It's a cliche that travel is "broadening", but if you haven't previously spent an extended period overseas, I think you would find it quite an education. My times overseas were some of my best, and it was always an eye-opener. Good luck with whatever you decide.

You're a smart guy, you'll make the best decision for you :)  I have to admit I'm kinda envious.  The thought of becoming an English teacher overseas is quite intriguing!  That's an interesting option that you have.  I might lean that way in your position.
