Title: Cell Phones in FSU
Post by: Philb on January 17, 2005, 05:00:00 AM
I know questions about cell phones in Ukraine and Russia come up on occasion.  I found new unlocked triband motorola p7389 gsm phones on ebay for $39.00 plus $15.00 shipping.  There are used ones also available for $32.00 plus $9.00.  I bought one of the new ones.  These should not only work internationally but should also work in the US where gsm networks are available.  This is a pretty basic phone but does come with an international charger and outlet adapters.

I priced sim cards on the internet but they are priced at around $50.00.  I can buy one in Kiev for about $10.00 or $12.00.  If a guy is only going over there once it is probably best just to rent a phone.  But for me this was much cheaper.  I will post on my experience after I have used it.

I have used these and they are less expensive.  I want the cell phone for making and receiving calls in Ukraine.  Also, I have had trouble using the cards you mentioned if I am using a rotary phone or if the network itself is old (and this is often the case in Ukraine).

By the way, it is good to hear from you, how is the family?

ith you to FSU or to Ukraine.
Will your phone from USA work out there if you have it pre-programed before you leave here?(Who really cares what roaming and peak cost so long as it works and is easy, right?)

On second note, thanks for asking.Family is great.Holidays were fun with a litle one around. It's hard to believe he'll be 3 end of this month.Big kid and Alex's speech is coming around just fine(in 2 languages).
Galina has her 10yr. greencard now and will soon apply for citizenship. She loves USA...

Helping her (My adopted)family (so cheaply) from here in USA has been a real pleasure. They are so grateful!
Lookng forward to a short visit there soon.

Do it all again??? YEP...Like KenC posted above, take your time,no fast decisions and I think anyone can find a beautiful heart out there in FSU and former parts.

Good luck on "your" trip soon.
