Title: Travel under an expired green card Post by: Apk1 on September 08, 2004, 04:00:00 AM We have applied for the 10 year card 2 months ago, and now my wife has an immediate need to go back to Russia to visit her sick mother.
On the back of her NOA receipt for the I-551 it is written that this receipt is all that is required to travel outside of the USA. My wife's Russian friend has told her that she needs to take along 2 passport pictures to get a stamp in her passport from USCIS. The USCIS website makes no mention of this....before I travel 2 hours to San Francisco and wait in line....does anyone else know if this added procedure is needed? Thanks Title: Don't Forget Marraige License If... Post by: RickM on September 08, 2004, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to Travel under an expired green card, posted by Apk1 on Sep 8, 2004
she does not have her USA passport most likely her airline tickets will be in her foreign passport name... I'd definitely call or make the trip to USCIS and inquire about the process of traveling under those conditions verses taking the letter only. Seems to me I've read somewhere recently somebody went and was provided with an advanced parole travel voucher while waiting for the I-751 (10 year greencard) to arrive. My wife is scared to death to leave USA until she gets it (new 10 year card). She applied in November 03 and got the infamous "wait one year letter" and is still waiting... Just bring the NOA letter extending the conditional green card with you. You should not have any problem re-entering the U.S. You don't need the stamp in your passport. I thought the same thing that you did and actually went to CIS to get the stamp and was told it was not needed. |
