Why take a lot of cash when there are ATM's everywhere...... they work in Both English or Russian and many will give you either US dollars or grivnas. Only take a couple of hundred in cash for those rare instances in which an ATM doesn't work and you don't have time to scout out another. Otherwise, just use ATMs during your entire trip, at least in all the major cities in FSU. Hey Raenman, I don't know where this silly story got started about not being able to take more than $1000 cash into Ukraine but it's not so. You can without any propblems, any paperwork, take up to $10,000 in cash into the country. You can take more than 10K but you will have to fill out some additional paperwork. So if you want to take 2K, 5K, 7K into Ukraine, it's no problem. Just remember to take clean, crisp bills with no tears or markings. You should have no problem finding many places (although you will probably need your Kiev helper to show you such places) to translate documents into English. for translating some of my documents. They were pretty good although they told me a certain time then did NOT have the papers ready. Damg incompetent fools. Then again I don't think they KNOW the meaning of having somethng by a deadline. You can take under a thousand and not declare it. From $1000 to $10,000 it needs to be declared. Above $10,000 needs extra paperwork and preparation ahead of time. |
