Title: Baby and Names Post by: DanAndChed on April 13, 2002, 04:00:00 AM We saw pictures of the baby and Mares is having a girl in september. The name has already been picked out, Dannise Chlaire.
I'll never get it spelled right. Why do Filipinos like to mis-spell names? My wife can spell better than I can, but she insists on this spelling of the name. Dan, Congrats! Check your email :c) There'd be NO issues if you guys had used "Howard", there is no filipino spelling for it! Hi Dan and Ched, My guess is that Filipinos, similar to Spanish speakers, tend to spell words the way they pronounce them. Unlike American and British English speakers who seem to mispronounce many words; asphalt, ate, buoy (British) and cuckoo, jaguar, schedule (American)... Just for kicks I like to have my wife say "chocolate"...Yah Baby! (I know you've probably done that before). ;o)) I enjoy the Philippine pronunciation of most English words, "hippopotamus" is especially a favorite. ;o))) Dave H. Hi Dan, Have her pronounce "giraffe." Where do Filipinos come up with "cockwa" for "cocoa" and "peacha" for "pizza"? Hey I'm a "Michigander" living in Florida (too much time spent on peninsulas)...what do I know? I still call a "creek" a "crick," a "roof" a "ruff," my "aunt" my "ant" and "Minnesota" "Minnuhsoda." Speaking of Minnesota, I just learned the true state motto (for Bill).
