Generally no. You have to be at least partnered with Ukainian nationals - who must have a controlling stake (risky). This was the subject of Pres. Kuchma's recent effort to amend the constitution that was defeated by oligarchs and communists. Apartment ownership I think is possible - Dan would know for sure Title: Re: Can foreigners purchase land Post by: romachko on July 28, 2003, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to Can foreigners purchase land , posted by jrm on Jul 27, 2003
I asked a number of people about real estate in Ukraine. They say that even a Ukrainian citizen cannot own a piece of land there. They can own the "exclusive right to use" the land, which is to me the same as the ownership as long as the right can be sold and purchased, and lasts forever until sold. I don't know about a foreigner's exclusive right, however. "They can own the "exclusive right to use" the land, which is to me the same as the ownership as long as the right can be sold and purchased, and lasts forever until sold." This is the exact same thing as having a "warranty deed" here. Most Americans do not own their land---no matter what they might believe. The "warranty deed" is just a "exclusive right to use" the land and pay a tax for that right. You have to have "allodial title" to be able to say you "own" a piece of land, otherwise the government owns it and you "are" just a tennant. It is very hard to aquire "allodial title" to land here, a land patent is close. So, we are no better off than they are in that respect. my 3 or 2cts. Lynn Title: Thanks! with most of the research I have found. A lawyer there, will be necessary to help with the title search, etc. Title: Re: Can foreigners purchase land Post by: Griffin redux on July 28, 2003, 04:00:00 AM ... in response to Can foreigners purchase land , posted by jrm on Jul 27, 2003
