Title: AOS INTERVIEW - FINANCIAL REQUIREMENT?
Post by: f12phantom on April 22, 2003, 04:00:00 AM
We are awaiting our interview scheduled for this coming June. Back when we applied for the fiancee-visa in December 2001, I was making an excellent income as depicted on my tax-returns from the previous three years. We were married in August 2002 and the AOS was filed at the end of October 2002. The subsequent interview date was first established for March 2003 and then was moved to June 2003. In the meantime, just when we were married, I went from being a very well paid consultant to a full-time employee at one of my client's losing 55% of my income. In addition, several of the important things we were "banking" on included my wife getting a job, which hasn't happend; my going back into consulting, which hasn't happened; also, her daughter was accepted at a university this past January and we were led to believe that her tuition would be fully covered by a combination of grants/scholarships and financial assistance which we just recently found out is not true - the university is now stating we are to pay $5,700 for the current semester or else she will be dropped; the list goes on etc etc etc - the bottom line being that currently we are in very poor economical shape.

I looked very good financially on the original I-864 Affadavit of Support, now, I highly doubt I would be accepted were this process to be done again. Hence, my question is: Does this come into play during the interview process? If so, can the INS refuse the issuance of a green card and send both of them back?

...I may be wrong, but I thought they were $14,000 a year. If you do not make $14,000, maybe getting a second job would help. They will look at your assests, and bank accounts. With the second job, put all the extra money in the bank. Right before the AoS interview, print out your bank statement.

I may be way off, but it seems the requirements were so low, that if you had any job it would suffice.

I haven't married a Russian/Ukrainian YET HOWEVER I did work for the State of Texas as a caseworker with TDHS. I can tell you there were TONS & TONS of people from Mexico who were able to get their paperwork done. Believe YOUR condition is a walk in the park compared to these people. The way I look at it is if THEY could get approved I don't see why you can't. I wouldn't worry about them being deported. Highly unlikely.
