I'll count us in here too.  Even though most Bulgarians would bristle at being included as "former Soviet Union".  They say "We USED the USSR.  We got protection from Turkey from them and they got nothing from us."

So you guys who think AW are bad! Just wait till you anger your RW........good luck

As most of you know, I am happily married, but let me give you all a better example of how successful these relationships can be.  Most of us have only been married for a few years or less, and much has been written about the long term success of these marriages with all of us spitballing as to the divorce rate, long term prospects, etc.  My wife's great aunt, from Kyiv, married an American Army colonel shortly after the end of World War II and they now live in Northern Virginia.  She was in the Red Army and they met in the brief period before the Cold War really hit and were married shortly thereafter.  When you meet these people you will not see a more happier and more stable couple.  The colonel never learned Russian, but the wife never forgot it.  So, despite those occasional naysayers, these marriages can last for the long term.  I only hope that I will be as happy as these people are.

Charles,

First of all, I note that you and your wife have a very reasonable age difference. I would guess the same might be true of the couple you mentioned.

I hate to admit it but, the more narrow the age margin the better the chances are of success. I most likely will not be as reasonable as you and will accept the increased risk.

Good luck to you both.

The traditional and regimented Soviet way is very much still a part of her character.
So much for the Cold War...we both won.
